Hilton Greece or Italy based - Senior Manager, Interior Design Europe in Watford, United Kingdom

The Senior Design Manager will report to the Interior Design Director for Southern and Eastern Europe, leading the review and development of Interior Design and FF&E works for Development and CAPEX hotel projects across all brands in the region.

Within this role you will hold the following responsibilities:

•Assist the Director of Interior Design in enhancing design quality by aligning organizational goals with performance objectives and managing multiple projects across different regions and stakeholders.

•Support the Director of Interior Design with all design responsibilities, including technical reviews to meet brand and technical standards, participating in value engineering, coordinating with Project Directors to adhere to schedules, and addressing design issues impacting renovation success.

•Manage and lead design projects, oversee FF E requirements, and ensure brand compliance through coordination with design and FF E managers. Provide design leadership and elevate design quality across multiple brands through detailed direction and review of design packages.

•On minor Capex and some owner-funded projects, offer FF E suggestions, detailed design direction, and guidance on interior and architectural proposals at each design stage.

•Utilize extensive interior design experience and coordinate with design consultants on space planning, materials, and design. Leverage experience from major hotel projects to provide detailed guidance and review notes to interior design consultants.

Planning Activities – 20%

•Assist the Director of Interior Design with project planning and area programming. Review each project's scope and PIP for completeness and clarity. Approve design direction, material specifications, and Hilton Standards. Submit monthly summary reports to the Senior Director of Interior Design & Architecture.

•Provide feedback on sketch and CAD layouts to design consultants.

•Oversee all interior design FF&E items, including design specifications, shop drawings, and mock-ups. Provide detailed feedback and design approvals at each stage.

•Ensure design and detailed design submittals, plans, and construction details meet technical standards. Propose design-led value engineering alternatives using previous interior design experience.

Directing Activities- 50%

•Communicate design and construction standards to assigned design firms and review Interior Design proposals for scope accuracy as directed by the Director of Interior Design.

•Enhance Hilton’s design platform in Europe through creative leadership, offering alternative design solutions and guiding designers using visual tools like mood images, CAD layouts, sketch plans, and reference imagery.

•Provide design support and encourage idea exchange between regions and brands through scheduled meetings and regular communication. Maintain contact with the project team and Hilton GDS/FF E teams in Europe.

•Assess detailed interior design drawings, offering guidance to improve design quality. Develop new hotel designs that reflect Hilton’s desired atmosphere and quality, ensuring functionality, practicality, and compliance with Hilton standards in collaboration with the Director of Interior Design.

•Critique guest room layouts and FOH areas to meet operational needs and maximize commercial opportunities. Prepare sketch layouts with zoning/furniture configurations and mood or FF E boards to assist consultants.

•Lead on-site mock-up room design and FF E reviews, providing detailed feedback on design and construction standards. Understand construction materials, design details, and architectural shop drawings.

•Review interior design presentations and FF E/brand narrative presentations against brand guidance and Global Design Services initiatives, providing feedback based on hotel design experience.

•Provide detailed direction on design standard compliance and work flexibly with selected design consultants.

•Offer specific design alternatives and examples to design teams to aid development.

•Comment on design schemes with visual references and detailed direction, potentially through bespoke design narrative documents.

Controlling Activities – 20%

•Oversee each selected project from inception to completion. Review and approve all interior design documents, providing written feedback and recommendations. Conduct periodic site inspections during the design process and installation as needed or directed. Monitor the quality of design work and ensure adherence to the approved project scope, specifications, and Hilton Standards. Lead or attend project meetings as required by the Directors of Interior Design.

•Execute interior design projects that do not require an external design firm, including the selection of fabrics, wall coverings, and carpets, as advised by the Director of Interior Design. This may also involve interior design, architectural planning, and construction knowledge.

•Prepare written and visual design briefs for landmark hotels across all brands, detailing location, brand expectations, and visual references. This includes FOH layouts, images, mood boards, and understanding brand narratives.

•Provide written approval at each design stage in conjunction with the allocated Hilton project manager.

Organising Activities – 10%

•Assist with special requests for non-owned properties and maintain an FF&E Preamble to Hilton D&C Standards with design teams in Asia, the UK, and Europe. Review and develop the Hilton preferred designers list for specific locations, owners, and design areas.

•Build relationships with external design consultants, owners, and relevant Hilton departments to advance the design platform across all Hilton brands.

•Review key elements of FF&E, control books, and design standards, providing detailed direction to design consultants and project teams.

•Ensure projects stay within budget.

•Create professional presentations using InDesign, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

•Exceptional written, visual, and verbal communication skills

•Capability to earn respect and trust from owners, developers, architects, interior designers, engineers, contractors, and Hilton departments, including Senior Executive, Development, Operations, Brand Management, Global Design, and Technical Services

•Project management experience

•Ability to develop project proposals

•Experience in reading and comprehending contracts and agreements

•Experience in developing and managing project budgets

•Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD, and other graphic software

Required Qualifications

•University degree in Interior Design or related field, or significant experience in lieu of a degree

•Strong commercial and/or hospitality design experience; previous experience managing hospitality design projects and liaising with outside consultants

•Graduate degree in a related field is an advantage

•Experience in working at a major international hotel company or in a significant design or management role in an interior design firm or architectural practice focused on hotels and large mixed-use developments

•Fluent in English and Greek and/or Italian

•Willingness to travel extensively within Europe and the wider EMEA region as necessary
