Summary:
Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures for patients as ordered by physicians. Performs routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices.
Responsibilities:
Transfers and positions patients. Provides immobilization devises as required.
Operates all required equipment. Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis. Develops films. Uses proper sterile techniques.
Provides proper radiation protection as prescribed by safety standards to themselves, patients, visitors, and other personnel.
Provides radiologist with pertinent patient and exam information. Assists Radiologist with exams, invasive procedures, and administering contrast material.
Knowledgeable with, and assists in, all quality assurance and quality control functions and record keeping.
Maintains adequate records. Assists with patient record keeping. .
Maintains an orderly and clean work area. Secures and maintains supplies.
Performs exams in accordance with established protocols. Shares US call and is available to come to the hospital within 30 minutes after being notified.
Assists in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures. May be required to assist in the development of new procedures, technical factors, film selection, and instruct ancillary personnel.
Contributes to department development, education, personal and professional growth.
Maintains familiarity with and follows all department and hospital policies and procedures, safety program, emergency preparedness, Infection Control, etc.
Rotates in the Radiology Department as needed. This may include call, change of shift, change of position, and working beyond end of shift.
Follows all State and AOA requirements.
Complies with Inland Hospital Hand Hygiene Standards.
Adheres to Inland Hospital Standards of Behavior.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Other Information:
Physical Environment
Exposed to all patient elements including blood and body fluids. May work under extremely stressful situations. Work hours may be long and irregular. Must work in limited lighting. Unpleasant smells. Work may involve standing for prolonged periods of time of confined areas.
Physical Criteria/Effort
Work involves standing, bending, leaning 80% of the time. Moderate physical effort is required in positioning, lifting, and transferring patients. Repeated bending, lifting arms overhead while moving heavy equipment. Frequent bending. Repetitive use of arms. Hearing and vision acuity required. Subject to stress, frustration, and fatigue.
SAFETY
Maintain a safe environment which includes knowing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Report and directly address identified environmental hazards when appropriate.
Report and directly address violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
Occupational Risks
Exposure to blood and body fluids. Possibility of needle sticks or cuts. Exposure to all patient elements. Possibility of injury from lifting or repetitive movements. Eye strain from working in darkened area.
Probability and Consequences of Errors
Improper technique, or thoroughness of scans, could result in missed or inappropriate diagnosis.
Numbers Supervised
This is a non-supervisory position.
Minimum Requirements for the Job
RDMS registry or registry eligible preferred. Previous experience desired.
Education
Training in ultrasonography and registered with ARDMS as a licensed sonographer.
Experience
Previous experience in OB/GYN, abdominal sonography.
Special Knowledge Required
Must have thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology. Must be able to recognize and demonstrate normal and abnormal anatomy.

Education
- Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)Training in ultrasonography and registered with ARDMS as a licensed sonographer.
