A Brief Overview of Medical Equipment Clinician

Accountable for directing clinical planning, application and follow-up of medical equipment and supplies for individuals. Provides clinical services to the patient in the home. The position is responsible for completing patient records, home visits, and coordinating care with other providers. ​

What you will do

  • Directs the planning of equipment needs for patients and high-tech setups. Completes home assessment on the ventilator assisted individual to determine acceptance of patient.

  • Provides direct patient care which may include, but not be limited to the following: patient assessment and response to therapy, pulse oximetry testing, weaning activities, trach changes, stoma care, suctioning and passy-muir or plugging trials. Trains and monitors caregivers on high tech equipment and respiratory patient care.

  • Monitors the efficacy of the PAP and Ventilator equipment on the patient, assess the ventilator assisted individual's response to invasive mechanical ventilation and make recommendations for changes in respiratory management to the provider. Creates and documents the patient care plan and directs the care conference with the patient's care team.

  • Knowledge of all HME Equipment and HME supplies to include item numbers, unit of measure, pricing, use, expiration, operation/function, preventative maintenance, and safety features. Knowledge and performance of detailed transactions including but not limited to registering new customer, sales orders, transfers, cash sales, returns, notes, tasks, autopay, and WIPS.

  • Responsible to assist in equipment servicing, maintenance and cleaning according to manufacturer's specifications, safety, and infection control standards.

  • Conducts home visits to perform quality control checks on equipment, and review with the customer proper use and safety factors.

  • Represents the company through marketing and in servicing of a defined product line to selected referral services. This requires continued updating of knowledge of products and services the location chooses to offer.

  • Pulls appropriate equipment and supply inventory based on physician order. Maintains inventory control to keep loss minimized.

  • Has general knowledge of all product lines promoted at the location and serves as resource to other staff and referrals regarding indications for use.

  • Is able to handle most billing and reimbursement inquiries and assists the site manager with special projects as assigned (i.e., quality management, inventory control, staff training, etc.).

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Drivers License - Licensing Board Valid Driver's license and that the employee is insurable by the Avera Health automobile liablility insurance carrier. Upon Hire

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice. Upon Hire and

  • Respiratory Therapist - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice. IF RRT or CRT, registration with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Upon Hire or

A Brief Overview

Delivers, setups, and trains patients, family, and medical staff on medical equipment products and services to meet the needs of patients and referral sources.

What you will do

  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of current HME products and services offered.

  • Provides education to patients, caregivers, and referral sources on HME equipment and supplies.

  • Completes required documentation following equipment setup, delivery, or pickups in accordance with company policy and applicable governmental regulations.

  • Performs detailed transactions including registering new customer, sales orders, transfers, cash sales, deposits, returns, notes, tasks, autopay, and work in progress.

  • Develops knowledge of reimbursement guidelines, obtains appropriate signatures, and completely documents all information required or necessary to ensure reimbursement for all appropriate equipment, products and services.

  • Conducts home visits to perform quality control checks on equipment and reviews with the customer proper use and safety factors.

  • Completes routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment following manufacturer requirements and company policy.

  • Cleans equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and requirements and in accordance with company infection control standards.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • High School or GED Equivalent

  • Less than 1 year Related training or experience
