Overview

The Vermont Department of Health is seeking candidates for the Director of the Division of Emergency Preparedness, Response and Injury Prevention. This position works across the Department and with state and federal partners in leading preparedness for and response to public health emergencies. This position also directs the functions of Vermont\'s Office of EMS and the Injury Prevention Program.

\ The ideal candidate will be a strong manager and team leader, able to communicate vision and direction to staff. They will also have an extensive background managing internal and external partnerships with diverse groups of stakeholders, along with program experience in public health with a focus on Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Management Services. Experience leading large groups and the ability to rapidly identify problems and recommend solutions are also critical to this role. In addition to managing the Department\'s response to public health emergencies, this person will lead the day-to-day work of the Division including oversight of budget, strategic plan development and execution, personnel management and division culture.

\ The Director works closely with the leadership team at the Department and throughout the state of Vermont. This position is based at the Department\'s Central Office in Waterbury, Vermont, in the same complex as our sister Departments in the Agency of Human Services, and the Department of Public Safety, where Vermont Emergency Management is housed. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but with predictable need for field travel for which private means of transportation must be available. Interaction with state and federal officials is frequent. The role requires performance of duties outside of the normal workday and workweek, including participation in drills, exercises and actual emergency response activities. The incumbent may encounter strong opinions and adversarial and stressful situations.
