Role Desc ription

The Technical Accounting & Internal Controls Manager will (i) assist in due diligence and purchase accounting procedures for acquisitions, (ii) research technical accounting matters, (iii) prepare technical accounting memos for key business initiatives and (iv) assist in the financial reporting process including drafting disclosures compliant with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements for complex transactions.

The Technical Accounting & Internal Controls Manager will also be part of a team responsible for executing our Internal Controls program. The Technical Accounting & Internal Controls Manager will be responsible for managing and executing various aspects of the program including scoping, delivery of the program, and reporting of results. The Technical Accounting & Internal Controls Manager will work closely with our co-sourced internal audit resources, business owners, information security team and our external auditors. Requirements for this position include extensive knowledge of SEC/PCAOB regulations, COSO and IT Audit concepts, as well as the demonstrated ability to monitor an effective global risk-based internal control environment to support financial and non-financial reporting. The Technical Accounting & Internal Controls Manager should be highly adaptable to change due to Costar Group’s rapid evolution via organic growth and acquisitions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical accounting assessment for new products, operational changes, partnerships or other strategic initiatives and assist with establishing accounting policies, including impacts on revenue recognition.

  • Perform contract reviews for accounting recognition and presentation considerations.

  • Perform control testing and review control test results.

  • Utilize dashboards to track, monitor and deliver control test status details.

  • Coordinate remediation of findings and deficiencies identified by SOX testers and external auditors, identify root causes and advise control owners on internal control enhancements.

  • Review controls to ensure adequate design and identification of key and non-key controls for critical processes/accounts, including rationalizing and optimizing controls through automation.

  • Participate in the annual SOX risk assessment and scoping exercise.

  • Serve as a liaison between management and the external auditors.

  • Support management’s review of third-party assurance reports, such as SOC1 reports, includinguser controls mapping for gap identification and deficiency impact evaluations.

  • Monitor changes in the organization and processes to ensure the SOX controls are updated and the changes are communicated in a timely manner. Coordinate related documentation updates.

  • Facilitate the use of data analytic techniques to drive opportunities for control improvements and control testing efficiencies.

  • Provide guidance and training to management on SOX compliance and internal controls.

  • Support special projects and the Company’s ERM program, as needed. Collaborate with Corporate Accounting,Finance and IT Compliance teams.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Business Partners to understand the broader business objectives, and provide accounting guidance and best practice recommendations to enable process changes.

  • Coordinate with external auditors.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting of Financefrom an accredited, not-for-profit University or College. 

  • 5+ years of progressive corporate accounting, consulting, or audit experience with a focus on internal controls.

  • CPA or CIA required.

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.

  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements and audit methodologies.

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency.

  • Extremely organized with a flexible mindset and willingness to embrace change.

  • Excellentinterpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with high personal and professional integrity, with a willingness to dig into anything and everything to support the business.

  • Excellent customer focus, a service mind set and the ability to partner closely with internal customers in a dynamic work environment.

  • Self-directed individual with a focus on process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with complex technical accounting issues, including expertise around revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), business combinations, multi-currency accounting, goodwill, segments.

  • Familiarity with Workiva Controls Management and OneTrustis a plus.

  • Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm.

This position offers a base salary range of $88,700 -$159,500, based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.
