Position Description

Leads and/or participates in the development of common components and templates for resources in cloud using the most relevant method (e.g., Infrastructure as code). With some guidance, regularly reviews cloud systems for vulnerabilities. Leads the process for and/or participates in the collaboration process with engineers and development teams on cloud solutions. Guides and/or participates in the identification and optimization of various cloud resources to increase efficiency and/or lower cost of solutions. Has advanced knowledge of cloud computing architectures (e.g., resource pooling, on-demand self-service, scalability, elasticity, security, and serverless computing). Based on research and business requirements, guides and/or provides recommendations to modify and improve existing cloud systems. Duties and Responsibilities

Position Requirements: FR-26 Minimal Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and five years of experience. Must have advanced knowledge (i.e., demonstrates broad understanding and contributes to the success of work in applicable areas) in the following areas: system administration, cloud technology platforms, cloud tools/services, and DevOps. Must be able to work effectively with staff. Must be able to support one or more of the following: database management, programming, cloud security/recovery, and cloud-centric integration. FR-27 Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and six years of experience. Must have expert knowledge (i.e., demonstrates comprehensive understanding and is viewed as a role model in applicable areas) in the following areas: system administration, cloud technology platforms, cloud tools/services, and DevOps. Must be able to work effectively with staff. Must be able to lead one or more of the following: database management, programming, cloud security/recovery, and cloud-centric integration. FR-28 Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field and eight years of experience. Must have expert knowledge (i.e., demonstrates comprehensive understanding and is viewed as a role model in applicable areas) in the following areas: system administration, cloud technology platforms, cloud tools/services, and DevOps. Must be able to work effectively with staff. Must be able to direct one or more of the following: database management, programming, cloud security/recovery, and cloud-centric integration. Candidates should have experience assisting or leading the installation, modification, enhancement, and/or management of systems and network resources to meet business requirements. Candidates should also have experience working with a team to solve issues and prevent outages, ensuring alignment with business and security needs, and ability to develop technical documentation and summarize complex data and information in a succinct and compelling manner. A writing sample may be required. The Sr Cloud engineer position will serve on the IT Cloud Architecture and Administration team responsible for supporting and innovating the offerings of Cloud Platforms, Cloud Service Providers, and supporting various cloud initiatives. The position is focused on skill sets in cloud networking. Preferred qualifications include: Developing and updating cloud templates, standards, and best practices to be used by multiple cloud projects with an emphasis on secure cloud architectures Design, deploy and manage cloud network architectures on platforms such as AWS and Azure Implement and manage virtual networks, subnets, route tables and network gateways to support cloud infrastructure Configure and optimize cloud network security, including firewalls, security groups and ACLs.Strong foundational knowledge across Microsoft Azure, and/or Amazon AWS technology stack Standardizing Azure and/or AWS Security Best practices, processes, and procedures Building and operating automated security operations Experience implementing Azure and/or AWS Designing and advising against security requirements to support cloud migration efforts Strong knowledge of industry trends in security technology Experience in federal government or with FISMA and FedRAMP standards highly desirable Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, connectivity issues Collaborate with DevOps and development teams and automate network management using infrastructure as code tools Highly desirable qualifications:Relevant certifications such as AWS certified Advanced Networking – specialty or Azure Network engineer associate etc. This position is hybrid, requiring a combination of telework and in-office presence in Washington, DC.
