Appalachian Regional Commission Senior IT Specialist [Information Technology] in Washington, District Of Columbia

Organization Overview:

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development entity of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region. Position Summary:

ARC seeks a highly organized and collaborative team player to join our Information Technology Division as a Senior Information Technology Specialist  to provide full-cycle reactive and proactive IT technical support for ARC and its employees.  The IT operation includes endpoints such as desktops, laptops and mobile devices, printers and conferencing peripherals.  This position also assists in supporting network connectivity (including VPN), stand-alone software packages and a wide variety of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS systems, including MS 365 and Azure technologies.  This position reports the Director, Information Technology.

Required Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge of technical support operations to include printers, desktops, laptops, servers, video conferencing, Exchange Online and SharePoint.

  • Strong service orientation with superior time management and communication abilities.

  • Strong understanding of the principles of computer security.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the interrelationships of the IT components involved in computer systems, networks, web services, etc.

  • Understanding of system automation , including scripting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools , including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Visio .

  • Core competencies: accountability, adaptability, collaboration, communication, critical analysis.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and to bring an energetic and innovative approach to work.

  • Ability  to bring patience and understanding to interactions with staff.

  • Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred and/or certification(s) in a technical discipline related to IT is preferred.

  • 4 solid years of user support and administration experience.

  • Successful completion (prior to hire) and maintenance of background security review.

  • Ability to travel (up to 10%) and must possess a valid driver's license.

ARC generally follows the General Schedule Salary Table of the Federal government.  ARC’s grades denoted by “NF” are equivalent to the federal grade(s) on the GS chart.  This position is an NF-12 (DC locality).
