Ameresco Senior Director – Federal & Utility Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance in Washington, District Of Columbia

Ameresco is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director – Federal & Utility Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance to oversee and manage the operations and maintenance of a portfolio of Federal & large-scale Utility projects across the United States. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of complex mechanical and electrical systems, including boilers, chillers, engines, turbines, solar energy systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will be a proven O&M manager with the ability to lead teams, develop and implement strategies, and ensure optimal performance and compliance with stringent Federal and Utility regulations for multiple energy systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the operations and maintenance (O&M) of a diverse portfolio of projects across the U.S., ensuring operational excellence and safety standards are consistently met.

  • Lead a team of O&M regional managers, site managers and technicians, providing mentorship, guidance, and support.

  • Serve as primary senior management interface with O&M clients.

  • Develop and implement long-term O&M strategies to optimize performance, maximize asset lifespan, and minimize downtime across various mechanical and electrical systems (boilers, chillers, engines, turbines, solar, BESS).

  • Develop O&M pricing in collaboration with business development, engineering, and construction teams in support of proposal efforts and new O&M business.

  • Oversee the operations of mechanical and electrical equipment on projects, ensuring preventive and corrective maintenance is performed effectively and in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate O&M activities for projects, ensuring that work is completed on schedule.

  • Ensure all O&M activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as safety and environmental standards.

  • Coordinate with Senior management in budgeting, financial planning and cost control for O&M portfolio.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Travel as required, approximately 30-40% of the time.

  • Perform other duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 15 years hands on experience overseeing and developing Federal O&M projects.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

    Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to travel 30-40% of the time.

  • Knowledge and experience in Computerized Maintenance and Management systems (CMMS).

  • Solar PV, MEP, HVAC, electrical, and BESS experience

  • Knowledge and experience in SCADA, asset management software and data acquisition systems such as Power factors, ALSO or equivalent

  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and how they integrate into energy system operations

  • Strong communication skills and proficient in MS Project, MS office,

  • Experience with OSHA requirements and safety-related training preferred.

  • Government, State, and PPA contracting experience including background and knowledge of the practices, procedures, and processes of contract administration, knowledge of relevant laws, terms and conditions, and policies governing contracts preferred in the energy industry .

  • Knowledge of FERC regulatory reporting

  • Experience managing multiple O&M employees, sites, and subcontractors preferred.
