Senior Advisor - Public Affairs
The Public Affairs Senior Advisor is a key contributor to the Cigna Group's Government Affairs Advocacy and Public Affairs team. The individual in this position will work to execute external facing strategic programs to shape public opinion and public policy that aligns with enterprise priorities to advance Cigna’s vision for better health care solutions. The Public Affairs Senior Advisor is the key designer and implementer of multiple cross-cutting initiatives on topics ranging from the employer market and prescription drug prices to pharmacy and patient experience. This position will leverage various outreach tools, consultant support, internal and external resources, and other tactics to conceptualize, build, and execute multifaceted public affairs programs that are grounded in provable and trackable outcomes. The role requires a high degree of collaboration, organization, and the ability to effectively coordinate and communicate in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Design and/or implement comprehensive public affairs initiatives on key enterprise priorities that include strategic planning, trackable and credible goals, tactical execution, content development and deployment, and executive reporting
Create, strengthen, and expand relationships with strategic external partners, coalitions, and allies to advance goals and campaigns
Supports implementation of operational improvements and processes to promote an integrated approach to advancing and achieving public affairs goals
Coordinate closely with advocacy and policy partners to align initiatives to government affairs objectives and monitor real time political and policy proceedings
Complicated multi-stage, long-term project management including effective prioritization, content development and writing, and creative direction
Utilize a myriad of offline and online tactics to reach and inform critical audiences, track progress, and report effectiveness
Design and implement internal reporting processes and standards for campaign operations
Direct external consultants’ activities and engagement initiatives
Works closely with department leadership and colleagues to manage budgets, contracts, and reporting
Supports quarterly and annual team goal setting, planning, and assessment of outcomes
Qualifications:
At least 8 years of experience working in public affairs, public policy communications, political campaigns, public relations, public policy, the U.S. Congress or Administration, or other related experience is needed.
Expertise in health care public policy issues, advocacy communications, political campaigns, or the regulatory environment preferred
Bachelor’s Degree required
Strong analytical writing and verbal communications skills
A successful candidate will be self-driven, detail-oriented, responsive, and possess a diplomatic presence and proven ability to earn credibility with internal and external audiences
Strong team player with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Professional in demeanor and able to work and communicate effectively with senior executives
Keen judgment and ability to manage competing priorities
This position requires someone in the Washington, DC area with the ability to work from a Cigna office at least 3 days a week as requested by the business.
