Howard University Hospital Occupational Therapist PRN in Washington, District Of Columbia

Occupational Therapist: PRN hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Pay Grade: $55 per hour Performs a complete Occupational Therapy evaluation on patients referred by physiatrists and department protocol for occupational therapy. Reviews medical records, interviews patient/family/others and administers standardized and non-standardized tests to evaluate the functional level of patients.  Analyzes and synthesizes evaluation data to identify problems for which occupational therapy intervention is appropriate. Identifies long and short term goals. Includes patient participation in treatment goals and selects techniques to achieve functional goals Maintains appropriate documentation on all patients’ problems, response to treatment, treatment plans and goals, and other necessary observations relative to the treatment process. Provides recommendations for equipment, adaptive and/or assistive device for patients. Prepares and presents case studies for Occupational Therapy departmental meetings. Prepares charge slips, appointment slips and daily log. Reports patient progress in divisional staff meetings. Coordinates home programs and the need for treatment by a home care agency. Participates in clinical aspects of the teaching program as required. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.  The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive. Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct. Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training. Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements. Actively participates in Health Sciences Compliance Program activities Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures. Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and staff. Ability to establish priorities and exercise independent and ethical judgement in the execution of therapeutic programs and plans of care. Ability to test and treat patients with a variety of modalities and exercise programs Ability to adapt standard occupational therapy techniques to the needs of special populations. Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials and general public. A qualified candidate will possess: Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy program Licensed to practice in the District of Columbia Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
