Job Title: Mid Level RF Design Engineer

Job Description

Seeking an experienced RF Circuit Design Engineer to join our team in support of the Naval Research Lab (NRL). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in board-level RF circuit design, with a particular emphasis on power amplifier design for transmitters. This role requires a blend of on-site and remote work, with some rare travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop RF circuits, with a focus on power amplifiers for transmitters.

  • Work on RF amplifiers for SDRs, with the potential to design up to 1 kW amplifiers.

  • Utilize Advanced Design System (ADS) Software, Microsoft Office, and/or HFSS for simulation and design.

  • Perform analog and PCB layout/schematic design using ORCAD, kiCAD, or related software packages.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design specifications are met.

  • Maintain and update design documentation and reports.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with RF circuit design at the board level (RF is Analog)

  • Experience with the design of RF amplifiers (application is for power transmitters), ideally experience with high power RF amplifiers

  • Experience with high-reliability systems like DoD, aerospace, etc.

  • Experience with ADS for simulating RF designs (or similar software like Microsoft Office)

  • Proficiency in RF simulation and analog design

  • Proficiency in PCB layout using ORCAD or related schematic capture tools

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in board-level RF design

  • Some experience as a technical subsystem lead or the capability to work at this level

  • Extensive experience in amplifier design, specifically power amplifiers

  • Active Top Secret clearance or willingness to obtain one

  • Desired experience with MATLAB

Work Environment

Office environment with a blend of on-site and remote work. Some rare travel required. The opportunity involves working on an exciting program for the design and development of RF circuits for an installation doing RF power transmission. It would be an opportunity to take a technical lead role and work on novel, cutting-edge designs.
