Actalent is seeking a Steam Turbine Generator Engineer to support a large Navy program affecting the next generation of Submarines. This critical program ensures the dominance of the seas and the safety of our sailors. The role involves planning, analysis, and reporting on turbine generators for Columbia and Virginia class submarines.
Responsibilities
Develop plans and specifications, perform analysis, and provide reports on assigned tasks involving the design and construction of turbine generators.
Be technically involved in resolving equipment and operational problems, which may include performing investigations or inspections at the manufacturer or test facility.
Perform design work and detailed checking of design computations done by others.
Review and critique all proposed changes to existing designs.
Ensure all design specifications conform to the latest MILSPEC requirements and initial design requirements.
Assist in troubleshooting operational issues related to overall system design.
Essential Skills
Experience with turbine engines, design, root cause analysis, and rotating machinery.
Knowledge of vibration analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) software.
5-7 years of related experience in all facets and design of turbine generators or similar rotating machinery including gas, steam, or rotors.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related technical field. (Navy Ex-Nuc with Nuc Certification can replace degree requirement)
An active Secret clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience providing engineering and technical support for large rotating equipment.
Experience working in submarine or commercial power plants.
Knowledge of vibration, balancing, and alignment techniques of rotating equipment.
Experience in turbine vibration analysis, turbine supervisory instrumentation, and balancing.
Experience troubleshooting steam turbines and equipment.
Familiarity with root cause analysis and failure mode analysis.
Work Environment
Work will be hybrid, with 3 days a week onsite at WNY, subject to Navy discretion. There is a travel requirement of 10% to Sunnyvale, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and/or Groton, CT. You will be working in a team environment with mostly ex-Navy veterans and retirees who understand the challenges of transitioning and care for each other.
