Pay Range: The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$18.55 - $22.67 hourly

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.

The Maintenance Mechanic I performs preventive and maintenance trade work for maintaining building systems, equipment, and related components. These services include routine and skilled preventative maintenance and rep a ir of building systems (plumbing , electrical, carpentry, HVAC , painting , snow removal). S/he may be required to drive University vehicles when necessary. This position is considered emergency staffing and must follow departmental and University policies regarding emergencies. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform efficient operation, maintenance, and repair for all building systems - including but not limited to HVAC, water treatment, electrical, lighting, plumbing, energy management, and fire protection.

  • Develop skills in installing, fabrication, constructing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Receive work assignments and plan work to be performed, obtaining necessary tools, equipment, and materials as well as completing assignments in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of equipment and employ service procedures and techniques indicative of first class work.

  • Assist in the monitoring of contractors, inspecting work and generating deficiency lists.

  • Performs snow removal and emergency services through inclement weather and University emergencies.

  • Respond to all building system emergencies as directed, understanding community emergency procures and ensuring the safety of Georgetown Law students, faculty, and staff.

  • Drive University vehicles when required, following all driving procedures.

  • Serve on various shifts and occasionally work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate building coverage and perform necessary repairs.

  • Project a positive appearance and attitude at all times, demonstrating exemplary tenant relations, team spirit, and respect of others.

Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager at the Law Center. Employee wo rks with other trades , alone or w it h helper as the situations requires. The work constitutes a direct service of the department in ensuring a comfort abl e , safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn, and work. This position is considered an emergency position. Employee will interact with Facult y , Students, Sta ff , Vendors, Guests & VIP's, members of the general public.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Four years of building maintenance experience

  • Must be graduate of a vocational or technical trade school or equivalent training

  • Must have a Universal CFC certification

  • Must have valid driver's license in Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia

  • Must be qualified to conform with University Driving Policy

  • The work requires the ability to lift and carry minimum of 50 lbs. to heavy items; to walk, climb stairs, able to work on scaffolds, lifts and ladders over 12 feet in length, bend and crouch, and to reach and pull to work on equipment; and to use hands, arms and legs in using the tools and materials of the trade

  • Employee is responsible for complying with life safety and OSHA requirements
