National Children's Center Facilities Maintenance Technician in Washington, District Of Columbia

Position Summary :

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance, upkeep, and minor renovations to all NCC owned facilities which includes nearly 200,000 square feet of commercial office and classroom space. Also serves as an advisor to the Facilities Manager regarding preventative maintenance on all mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment, cabinetry, hardware, etc.

Schedule & Location: Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. On-call once per week and projects on Saturdays are expected. You will report to the program in Silver Spring, MD then travel to locations across Washington, DC, Prince George’s and Montgomery County.

You will drive your own vehicle and receive mileage reimbursement.

The salary for this position is $22.50-23.00 per hour.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing equipment, along with tasks to perform installation of faucets, toilets, drywall/drywall repairs, doors hardware, etc for all areas of the properties.

  • Maintains all plumbing fixtures throughout the NCC owned and leased facilities. This includes repair and replacement of toilets, sinks, faucets, shower heads, drains, etc. Determines best method for completing task. Repair of fixtures will include a very large variety of parts as fixtures are not standardized. Incumbent must determine problem and research with vendors to obtain necessary parts.

  • Responsible for electrical work to repair, replace and install outlets, lighting fixtures, light switches, etc.

  • Responsible for snow removal at all NCC owned properties

  • Incumbent will be on call for emergencies

    Qualifications:

  • Must have a HS diploma or GED

  • Previous maintenance experience (3-5 years)

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Must have own hand tools

  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform related duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting

  • Must have the ability to obtain and sustain various clearances required to work with NCC; criminal/FBI, child protection, urine drug screen, medical, and others

  • Must be able to effectively communicate (oral and written) at all staff levels

  • Must be skilled in the use of power tools; tables saws, drills, handheld circular saws, miter saws, etc.
