Role Summary: The Configuration Management Specialist is responsible for managing and executing configuration management (CM) processes to ensure that all system configurations and changes are accurately documented, tracked, and implemented. This role involves establishing CM practices, developing CM plans, and ensuring compliance with DHS policies and standards. The Configuration Management Specialist will oversee the CM lifecycle, from identification and control to status accounting and audits, to maintain the integrity and consistency of the system’s performance and functionality. Responsibilities: Configuration Management Planning: Develop and maintain Configuration Management Plans, outlining the approach, methodologies, and standards for configuration management activities. Configuration Identification: Establish and maintain configuration baselines, ensuring all configuration items (CIs) are properly identified and documented. Change Control: Manage the change control process, ensuring all changes to configuration items are reviewed, approved, and documented in accordance with established procedures. Configuration Status Accounting: Maintain accurate records of the status and history of configuration items, including changes, deviations, and waivers. Configuration Audits: Conduct configuration audits to verify compliance with configuration management policies and standards, ensuring all changes are implemented as approved. Documentation Management: Ensure all configuration-related documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders. Tool Administration: Utilize and maintain configuration management tools and databases, ensuring their effective use in tracking and managing configuration items. Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of configuration management activities with organizational goals and project requirements. Minimum Requirements: Experience: Over 5 years of relevant experience in configuration management for large-scale IT systems, including experience with CM tools and practices. Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with configuration management tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, and other relevant software. Certifications: Relevant certifications in configuration management or equivalent professional qualifications. Knowledge and Expertise: In-depth understanding of configuration management processes, standards, and best practices, particularly within the DHS Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) or equivalent lifecycle processes. Education: A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as information technology, computer science, or engineering. Preferred: Advanced Technical Skills: Proficiency in additional CM tools and software relevant to configuration management and documentation. Project Management: Ability to manage and coordinate CM activities across multiple projects, ensuring timely and accurate implementation of configuration changes. Security Awareness: Understanding of security requirements and best practices related to configuration management, ensuring compliance with relevant security standards. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate CM processes and requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Advanced Degrees: A master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as information technology, computer science, or engineering. Certifications: Additional certifications in project management or agile methodologies. Strategic Development: Experience in developing and implementing strategic configuration management plans, including technology roadmaps and innovation strategies. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring collaboration and integration of CM activities across various technical domains.
