District of Columbia Courts Calendar Clerk (District of Columbia Courts Agency Employees Only) in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary This position is located in the Office of the Clerk of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. The Calendar Clerk is responsible for the administrative tasks associated with preparing the court's calendars, processing motions filed in calendared cases, maintaining and distributing current information on calendar activity, and monitoring cases ready for calendaring. Responsibilities Brief Description of Major Duties: Reviews cases ready for calendaring to ensure that all procedural issues in these cases have been resolved. Coordinates judicial screening of cases. Conducts quality reviews and sends a list of cases ready to be screened for judges. Updates the case management system and ensures that a request for available dates is sent to attorneys and arguing parties in cases to be argued. Prepares the monthly calendar for oral arguments and submission without oral argument from cases that have been screened. Circulates draft calendar to judges for recusal checks. Seeks approval of the draft from the Chief Judge. Upon approval, circulates the calendar to all judges, courtroom staff, and other staff members. Utilizes the case management system to issue notices of calendaring to counsel and involved parties. Drafts orders for pleadings filled in calendared cases. Responds to inquiries from Clerk Office's staff, judges' chambers, attorneys, and litigants regarding calendar matters. Prepares and distributes courtroom memorandums that inform judges, courtroom staff, and security of scheduled cases, attorneys, and arguing party names. Updates the memos as changes occur. Prepares panel disclosure notices and coordinates with the webmaster for posting on the court website and publication. Makes weekly reminder calls to counsel and arguing parties of upcoming arguments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Refer to Policy 0210 and Policy 0200. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma plus eight (8) years of administrative experience of which at least two (2) years are in a legal or court environment. Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other major software applications. Education Substitution: Associate's degree plus five (6) years of administrative experience of which at least two (2) years are in a legal or court environment. Bachelors degree plus three (4) years of administrative experience and two (2) years of experience in a legal or court environment.
