Summary These positions are located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Policy and Research Branch, Consumer Research Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation conducting complex nationally-representative studies and developing research programs that both fulfill mandates and generates findings that inform productive activities to increase economic inclusion in the United States. Responsibilities At the full performance level, major duties include: Serves as an expert at the FDIC responsible for conducting and managing mandated FDIC-sponsored research initiatives that regularly recur with strict deadlines and are of the highest importance to the Corporation. Represents the FDIC at academic conferences, government convenings, and public forums in presenting, interpreting, and disseminating findings from mandated research initiatives that inform stakeholder actions that have major impacts on economic inclusion efforts in the United States. Collaborate with other researchers at federal agencies, regulatory bodies, and non-governmental organizations to share insights and to promote the pursuit of research questions that produce complementary findings to that of mandated FDIC-sponsored research initiatives and that contribute to a comprehensive body of knowledge to inform economic inclusion efforts. Conducts and provides leadership on research, analyses, and evaluation of various Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation internal operations, to help address challenges facing the Corporation and to provide economic advice and counsel used to plan and change internal programs of the Corporation. Using appropriate state-of-the-art analytical techniques, develops models and leads development teams in support of Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation internal operations. Publishes studies in external publications including Working Papers, FDIC Staff Studies, and other FDIC publications, as well as peer-reviewed journals. Presents academic-style economic research at seminars and conferences. Provides constructive feedback on the research of colleagues by participating in seminars, discussing papers at conferences, and refereeing for peer-reviewed journals. Qualifications Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, applicants must meet the defined qualification requirements listed below: CG-12: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience with the implementation of surveys; with various aspects of research initiatives that result in public reports, including the analysis of findings and in report writing; and communicating novel findings to a variety of audiences. EDUCATION: Education may be substituted for experience in qualifying for this position at the CG-12 only. If qualifying based on education, applicant must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Combination of education and experience: A combination of graduate level education, and specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. Candidates who are selected for the position based on education, must provide documentation of completing all requirements for a Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree prior to entering on duty. CG-13: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 12 level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience with the implementation of nationally-representative surveys; with various aspects of a complex high profile research initiative that results in a recurring high profile public report, including the meeting of technical requirements, analysis of findings, and report writing; and communicating novel findings to agency leadership and to the public. CG-14: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 13 level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience with the implementation of nationally-representative surveys; leading aspects of a complex research initiative that results in a recurring high profile public report, including the meeting of technical requirements, analysis of findings, and report writing; and communicating novel findings to agency leadership and to the public.
