Assistant Director, Center for Business and Public Policy - McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

The Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy (https://cbpp.georgetown.edu/) is an academic research center within the McDonough School of Business (MSB) (https://msb.georgetown.edu/about/) . For the last 20 years, we have engaged with scholars, industry practitioners, and policymakers in inquiry and dialogue and to disseminate knowledge on issues at the nexus of business and public policy. Across diverse industries and economic sectors, we investigate the evolution of innovation, competition, and regulation. We conduct empirical economic analysis, keep abreast of relevant issues, and inform policies that promote economic welfare.

Job Overview

The Assistant Director supports the leadership team of the Center in its mission to engage scholars, industry practitioners, and policymakers in inquiry and dialogue. Working closely with the Executive Director and Academic Director, they assist in disseminating knowledge to its key stakeholders on issues at the nexus of business and public policy.

Operating in three key areas (Administrative support, Business support, and Program Management), the Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of the Center in duties that include but are not limited to:

Administrative Tasks

  • Securing travel arrangements and itineraries

  • Completing expense reimbursements

  • Manage all office-related activities, including maintaining office supplies and gifts

Business Tasks

  • Collaborating with McDonough Marketing & Communication Department in the Design of the Center’s Website

  • Maintaining and updating printed output, web content, and digital communication

  • Interacting with the Center’s Senior Policy Scholars and Senior Industry and Innovation Fellows

Program Management

  • Planning and executing all in-person and virtual events

  • Maintaining Center’s Social Media outlets

  • Assuring quality control of all output material

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Across diverse industries and economic sectors, the Center is focused on the evolution of innovation, competition, and regulation. It conducts empirical economic analysis, keeps abreast of relevant issues, and informs policies that promote economic welfare. This work is shared through research collaboration and publication, succinct Economic Policy Vignettes, commentary and analysis in major media outlets, and various convening events, including our Georgetown on the Hill seminar series.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director and Academic Director on all Center-related administrative, business, and program activities; and interacts with other Center Scholars within and outside of McDonough and Georgetown on these activities. They work with other support functions - e.g., Marketing and Communication - within McDonough on Center-related

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant/professional experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-direction and detail-orientation, with strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Webpage maintenance skills, database management skills, and basic design skills

  • Basic project management skills for directing diverse groups, often to tight deadlines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Proficiency with LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms

  • Ability to review and edit Center output material

  • Ability to work responsibly and to prioritize tasks with little guidance

    Pay Range:

    The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
