Summary This position is located at US Mint,Financial Directorate - Reporting Section. As an Accountant, you will be serving as a staff expert in accounting and/or reporting with responsibility for providing analysis on all general ledger accounts. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Engage in systems work for all types of systems having a financial impact for all of the U.S. Mint. Advise on, administer, and perform professional accounting work that requires application of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and standards to the financial activities of the U.S. Mint. Maintain accounts and prepare regular and special reports as required to meet the needs of the U.S. Mint. Compile accounting data from labor distribution reports, materials, and supplies requisitions, inventory statements and other sources to determine reporting cost of various activities, programs, and products. Collaborate with others in Accounting and other entities in the Mint to obtain detailed information in support of the ongoing analysis and to provide detailed explanations of the differences in the accounting systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume. Specialized experience for the GS-9 is one year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-7 level or equivalent, in either public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: - Assisting in collecting and analyzing and interpreting financial data; AND - Preparing reports of findings for evaluation and adjudication. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or masters equivalent graduate degree in either accounting or auditing or related fields, such as business administration, finance, or public administration. OR A combination of the education and experience listed above (1 and 2) in which my percentage of specialized experience and education totals to 100%. (For example: the completion of 50% requirements for J.D. and 6 months of specialized experience.) Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. Education Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions. *Please remember to include a copy of your transcripts or a list of courses showing title, number of credits, grade, and date of completion to receive credit. An unofficial transcript is acceptable at time of application; however, if selected, an official copy of your transcripts is required. If you do not provide this information, you will not receive further consideration. A copy of a diploma is NOT acceptable. Basic Requirements A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.") OR B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: 1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; 2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or 3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
