About the program:

Our organization has supported theSSP continually since the program s inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation s nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Position Description and Responsibilities:

Reporting into the Specialty Engineering Deputy Program Manager, the Specialty Engineering (SpE) Technical Lead Engineer is responsible for:

  • Customer partnership and relationship management across a suite of 30 government and military customers up to SES and 06-level Navy customer leadership.

  • Analyzing customer requirements and developing technical solutions through leadership and technical management of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for overseeing and implementing security and safety risk management processes and mitigation strategies for System Security Engineering (SSE) and System Safety Engineering disciplines.

  • Reviewing and providing Input to internal and external policy, developing SpE processes, and implementing appropriate risk management tools to continuously assess, mitigate, and minimize risk to the system s safety, security, and overall reliability.

  • Informing internal program managers and technical leaders about technical and programmatic risks, mitigation strategies, and potential opportunities.

  • Overseeing SpE project plans, timelines, and associated deliverables in-collaboration with BAE Systems Program Management leadership, and our SSP customer to ensure that all technical requirements are met, and responsible projects are executed within approved technical and program management processes, and budgetary and contractual requirements.

  • Leveraging Model Based Systems Engineering at various design phases through the lifecycle of a program to facilitate in identification of potential safety hazards and system security threats.

  • Supporting technical meetings, preparing, and presenting project status reports to senior Navy and BAE Systems leadership.

  • Coordinating with other BAE Systems sections and key stakeholders, including Government personnel, contractors, and vendors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Bachelor s degree in applicable field and at least 10 to 15 years related work experience or a master s degree and 8 to 10 years of related work experience.

  • 10 years experience and a track record of success in leading highly skilled teams through technical issues and challenges and executing solutions to meet programmatic requirements.

  • Current or prior nuclear weapon system leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated ability in developing and enforcing specialty engineering policies that align with industry best practices and organizational needs.

  • Demonstrated understanding of specialty engineering disciplines, strategic planning, and change management.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the complex interdependencies within a system of systems, ensuring specialty engineering measures are implemented holistically across all connected components.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience presenting to senior leaders and customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and implement system safety and policy and requirements, safety risk management processes and mitigation strategies for system of systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and implement system security policy and requirements, risk management processes and mitigation strategies for system of systems.

  • Familiarity with Critical Program Information Identification and Criticality Analysis.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master s degree in technical management, engineering, or other technical discipline.

  • Actively hold a TS/SCI clearance.

  • Experience as a Naval Officer supporting Submarine programs.

  • Experience with strategic deterrence and/or missile defense systems and missions.

  • Understanding and ability to lead failure investigations and chair failure review boards.

  • Desired experience in digital engineering and model-based systems engineering principles and tools.

  • Experience with Risk Management Framework (NIST 800-53) and appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • High level understanding of Supply Chain Security as an early adoption of threat mitigation strategies during system developmental activities.

  • Any of the following certificates: INCOSE CSEP, ESEP, CISSP or other Cybersecurity certification, Human Systems Integration (HSI), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), System Safety or other safety certification, Models Based Systems Engineering certificate, or Defense Nuclear Weapons Schools / Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) sponsored training certificates

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
