Oncology Strategy - Senior Manager

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will report to the Oncology Strategy Director and will be based on our main corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA or remote.

The Senior Manager’s primary role will be to support Amgen’s Partners of Choice academic collaborative network. The Amgen Partners of Choice (APoC) network that brings together Amgen's oncology research and development experts and world-class clinical leaders at eight research centers across the globe. As part of Amgen's mission to improve care through partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem, the network fosters academic collaboration to advance new treatment options for patients with the greatest unmet needs.

The Oncology Strategy Senior Manager will be an integral part of the supporting the day-to-day operations, strategic direction, and continuous improvement of the Amgen Partners of Choice Network. The Senior Manager will need to manage global external communications and act as a trusted representative for the organization to the external scientific community. They will gain exposure to internal Amgen Oncology leadership and product teams, with the responsibility to connect internal groups to advance Amgen’s collaboration efforts.

The Senior Manager may also support project-based work with a focus on topics in the R&D space – examples of potential assignments include: portfolio strategy; technology deep dives; and cross-portfolio analytics and/or risk management.

While the Oncology Strategy Senior Manager role can be located remotely there is an expectation that availability at times of high activity may need to accommodate some Pacific Time Zone working hours.

Responsibilities-

  • Support the Oncology Strategy Director in APoC strategy development, goal setting, execution of organizational plans, creation of organizational communications, project management and implementation of functional projects

  • Project Management support and oversight of new and ongoing APoC collaboration projects interfacing effectively with cross-functional groups including Clinical Development, Precision Medicine, Research, Clinical Operations, and Legal

  • Work with APoC Leadership to support operational areas such as budget, contracting, resource management, status reporting, network meeting support and process improvements projects

  • Drive the planning, preparation and execution of network-wide summits to achieve strategic objectives of the organization, including agenda preparation, presentation development, logistics planning and facilitating external speaker engagement

  • Development of internal and external communications including newsletters, meeting logistics and communications, and meeting presentations

  • Turn unstructured business issues/requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, significant and impactful deliverables

  • Liaise with external contacts at APoC sites on behalf of Amgen

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of relevant experience, OR

  • Master’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience, OR

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience, OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree (i.e. PhD) or Master’s in Business Administration

  • Robust knowledge of biopharma industry (i.e., pharma development, translational sciences, R&D processes)

  • Understanding of interplay among various stakeholders in the industry, awareness of trends and recent developments, and ability to research / learn/ synthesize findings on new topics

  • Oncology R&D experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical company)

  • Program and alliance management skills with experience in a healthcare-related environment, operationalizing strategic initiatives, including cross-functional planning, development and maintenance of project management systems, monitoring and driving execution to plan

  • Emotional intelligence skills including influencing without authority, navigating within a matrix environment, and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience in planning and facilitating workshops, summits, and large group meetings

  • Experience using Project Management tools, methodologies, practices and infrastructure, as related to the Biopharmaceutical Industry

  • Financial budgeting and variance reporting experience

  • A self-starter with the ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with excellent time management, self-prioritization and self-motivation

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
