City of Warwick Chief of Highway in Warwick, Rhode Island
Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, plans, organizes, directs and reviews the work performed in the Highway Division and the Sanitation Division of the Department of Public Works. Duties include: ? Directs and supervises the operations of the Highway Division necessary to the construction and maintenance of city highways, drainage systems, sidewalks and amenities within the City right-of way. ? Coordinates with the Chief of Automotive on the regular and capital maintenance needs of the Highway and Sanitation fleets. ? Formulates schedules and work plans for the divisions. ? Plans, directs, reviews and critiques the work performed by each supervisor, foreman and maintenance crew. ? Makes special assignments for the Highway Supervisor and the Highway and Sanitation Division Foremen. ? Inspects work performed by Highway and Sanitation Division staff while in progress and upon completion and provides guidance as necessary to ensure quality outcomes. ? Assists with the construction and maintenance of all roads in the City highway system. ? Assists with the development of capital improvement plans, priorities, and schedules associated with the Highway Division. ? Coordinates and manages the Citys yard waste collection and processing program. ? Directs operations necessary for pre-treatment, sanding and plowing of roads. ? Coordinates the Departments response to adverse natural events such as micro-bursts, hurricanes, severe wind damage, flooding, etc. ? Inspects all city roads noting repair and maintenance needs. ? Manages recycling operations. ? Performs related work as required. Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least ten (10) years of experience in the field of road maintenance, road construction, or a closely related field with a minimum of five years of experience supervising staff engaged in road maintenance or construction, or sanitation operations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Note: Must possess a valid Rhode Island State Commercial Drivers License (CDL). A drivers license check for last two years will be performed.
