Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Job Summary:

This role will support design development Structural engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other Structural engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.

This position will be based in Warsaw office.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Originate and check structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations and specifications.

  • Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines.

  • Prepare technical reports relates to specific design issues.

  • Assist in constructability reviews.

  • Contacts counterpart in other disciplines, supplier/client representatives and project field personnel when directed, to either gather or give information.

  • Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.

  • Participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.

  • Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.

  • Analyze structures using GTSTRUDL or STAAD.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a team and providing support as needed

  • Other duties, as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or related) from accredited university and 2-5 years of relevant experience or in lieu of a degree 6-8 years of relevant work experience​

  • Must be authorized to live and work in country without sponsorship.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to execute the detailed design of steel and/or concrete structures.

  • Knowledge and application of the Eurocode and Polish laws and standards for structural design.

  • Familiar with structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.

  • Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCad.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.

  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.

  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication and organizational skills are essential.

Preferred:

  • Have Poland Professional Engineering (PE) license.

  • Knowledge of the use Mathcad or similar software.

  • Knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.

  • Knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.

  • Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.

  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.

  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).

  • Experience in the structural design of Nuclear facilities.

  • Experience in resolving field problems associated with FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CRs, and/or SDDRs.

  • Experience with GE Nuclear Plant designs.

  • Modular reactor plant design experience.
