Statutory Compliance Accountant Eastern Europe

Location: Romania, Bucharest

Remote: Occasional presence in the office required

Purpose

For our Statutory Compliance function located in Bucharest, Romania, Stanley Black & Decker has an immediate need for a qualified and experienced accountant to join them as a Statutory Compliance Accountant for the Eastern Europe region. This position will report into the Statutory Compliance Manager Eastern Europe.

The Job (responsibilities):

Prepare and present accurate, timely and compliant financial statements to internal management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies for Stanley Black & Decker legal entity in Romania.

Cooperation with external consultants in preparation of annual financial statements for legal entities in other Eastern European countries, in particular Bulgaria, including management and support of related local statutory audits

Ensure all financial operations are carried out in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Reconciliation of accounts including accruals, calculation and posting of statutory adjustments

Maintain and update all financial records. Ensure all financial transactions are correctly recorded and archived.

Identify potential risks or inaccuracies in financial statements and implement solutions to mitigate them

Prepare or support preparation of income tax returns and liaise with professional tax advisors.

Coordinate and participate of other tax reporting – provide required information and participate in compliance procedures

Provide support on gathering and preparing support documentation for tax audits.

Statistical reporting to National Statistical Office

Daily statutory accounting activities and period end review and close processing

Ad-hoc reporting and other accounting queries

Stay updated with changes in financial regulations and standards. Implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.

The Person (requirements):

Education background in Finance

Be a qualified accountant under Romanian GAAP with min. 4 years post qualification experience, preferably in large multinational organizations; additional experience with other GAAP legislations (e.g. US-GAAP, IFRS) will be useful.

Excellent accounting skills and profound experience in preparation of statutory accounts under Romanian GAAP; moreover, experience with preparation of statutory accounts under other GAAP legislations will be useful.

Audit experience is essential.

A good level of experience in preparing or supporting the preparation of income tax returns ready for external professional review.

Fluent in Romanian and English. Read/write Cyrillic alphabet will be an asset.

Excellent communication skills to liaise with accounting teams, auditors, professional advisors and colleagues across the international organization of the group.

Good IT skills including MS Excel. SAP experience would also be an added benefit.

Ability to achieve deadlines.

Strong willingness to learn and drive efficiencies.

Flexibility and adaptability in order to provide support and assistance to other team members or colleagues and to contribute to and participate in process improvement initiatives.

Ability to work on own initiative, strong willingness to learn

Attention to detail and analytical skills are critical to the role
