DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, your responsibilities will include operating trucks, loaders, and other necessary equipment. During the probationary period, you will become certified to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and two pieces of construction equipment. It is important that you properly perform, and document all required pre- and post-operations checks on a daily basis, following both Department and legal requirements. When you are not operating equipment, you will also be responsible for performing flagger duties for traffic control. Additionally, you will be expected to perform various manual laboring duties using both motorized and non-motorized hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, hammers, and chain saws. You will need to select and use these tools properly to minimize wear and breakage and report any missing or broken equipment. Other tasks include cleaning culverts, cutting grass and brush, erecting signs, digging ditches, and performing repairs to guiderails and barriers. You will also need to make necessary field adjustments to ensure safe operation and minimize wear, as well as perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment, including cleaning and servicing. Lastly, you may be required to demonstrate the operation of assigned equipment to other employees.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required.  Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA; or

Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
