General Motors Strategy and Planning Analyst in Warren, Michigan

Job Description

Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center Podium, Warren MI three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business

The Role

Are you a data science geek with a passion for learning and solving complex business challenges? Our Data Analytics team supports operational improvement and business decision-making through ad-hoc statistical analysis of curated enterprise data and self-constructed data sets.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Support business partners by identifying opportunities to apply data-driven solutions and assist in using analytical insights to contribute to strategic initiatives.

  • Assist in analyzing, cleaning, and modeling data to uncover trends, optimize decision-making, and contribute to achieving key business objectives.

  • Help create reports, dashboards, and visualizations that communicate insights effectively and support stakeholders in making informed decisions.

  • Work with team members to translate business needs into technical requirements and help ensure data insights align with business goals.

  • Contribute to coding, statistical modeling, and BI analysis tasks to support decision-making and improve operational efficiency. Exposure to LLMs (Large Language Models) is encouraged, especially for automating tasks or analyzing unstructured data.

  • Assist in defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) while ensuring data accuracy and helping resolve any integrity issues that arise.

  • Learn to manage multiple priorities, balancing ongoing projects, ad hoc tasks, and high-priority assignments as business needs change.

  • Support the communication of insights by helping translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that influence strategy and execution.

  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve processes and recommend data-driven solutions to enhance business performance.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.

  • 1-3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or analytics-driven decision-making, with a strong foundation in applying data insights to support business objectives

  • Business Intelligence & Visualization: Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, or similar BI tools to create basic reports and visualizations

  • KPI Management & Data Integrity: Ability to track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) with guidance, ensuring data consistency and identifying potential integrity issues.

  • Data Storytelling: Ability to translate data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders, with a focus on improving communication skills to effectively present complex information.

  • Business Alignment: Understanding of how data-driven insights support business operations and objectives.

  • Eagerness to develop a deeper understanding of how analytics aligns with strategic decision-making.

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of data curiosity—proactively exploring data, asking insightful questions, and uncovering meaningful patterns and opportunities.

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications)

  • Collaboration & Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, work on projects with different priorities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business goals in an evolving environment.

  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Experience or familiarity with data cleaning, transformation, and basic statistical modeling to uncover trends and assist in decision-making.

  • Exposure to using data analysis techniques to support business goals is preferred.

  • Programming:Proficiency in SQL for querying and transforming data

  • Willingness to further develop skills in dashboard creation and data visualization.
