The EH&S Specialist Responsible for the health, safety and environmental functions for a manufacturing facility. Spearhead specific actions to assure the Plant complies with all federal, state provincial, and local health, safety and environmental regulations and rules, including those related to occupational health and safety. Champion the facility's risk management program through the corporation's Business Operating Systems (BOS) which are designed to minimize the physical and financial exposure resulting from potential, alleged or actual on-the job injuries/illness and environmental compliance. Develop and track progress of strategies which focus on employee engagement toward health, safety and environmental policies and procedures for the facility.

Responsibility:

  • EHS Specialist will be responsible for contacting outside agencies such as Fire Department, OSHA and environmental regulators.

  • Respond and investigate environmental incidents and spills, including completing investigations to determine root-cause and closure activities.

  • Identify and facilitate appropriate and required environmental training.

  • Advise Plant Management of safety related situations, a member of the Plant Safety Committee and a member of Launch Team and work closely with Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Utilize lean manufacturing methodologies which support health, safety and environmental strategies.

  • Oversee regulatory agency inspections.

  • Conduct housekeeping and safety inspections.

  • Oversee environmental and safety task on glide path.

  • Maintain First Aid for the facility. Provide first aid treatment of on the job injuries or illnesses including records.

  • Abreast of the latest health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and equipment by membership in appropriate organizations, attendance at pertinent seminars and reading professional journals.

  • Maintain 'MSDS online' for the Plant and policies relating to this program.

  • Establish, maintain and provide training for the Fire Safety Program at the facility.

  • Prepare and maintain an Evacuation Plan and training for employees in the use of the plan in case of fire or other emergencies.

  • Develops and facilitates appropriate and required plant safety training for all staff.

  • Identify, recommend and implemented ergonomic changes to reduce health and safety injuries.

  • Team with regional Workers Compensation claims Administrative Team, Third-Party Administrator and attorneys to manage open Workers Compensation claims.

  • Conduct safety and environmental orientation program.

  • Evaluate facility for safety hazards and develop proactive strategies to address inefficiencies.

  • Conduct daily safety reviews of operations.

  • Complete ISO1400l and other HSE audits.

  • Proficient with MS Office and advance skills with MSExcel.

Requirements

  • BS, HS&E or Occupational Safety Preferred or additional equivalent experience

  • HSE certifications and Six Sigma certification a plus.

  • 3+ years of EHS manufacturing experience, automotive a plus.

  • 3+ years of Safety Training in a manufacturing environment.

  • 3+year experience with ergonomics management and lean manufacturing.

  • Hands-on experience investigating all HSE complaints/issues.

  • Must have OSHA and TOSHA regulations.

  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation.
