Job Summary and Qualifications

The Surgical Technologist Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services to support the efficient operation of the surgical suite under the supervision of the Circulating RN.

What you will do in this role but not limited to:

· The Surgical Technologist Extern assists the surgical staff in the perioperative process.

· Collaborates with the Circulating RN and Surgical Tech to organize the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day.

· Reviews daily cases to ensure adequate stocking.

· Ensures proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures.

· Transports patients to and from surgical suite as needed.

· Aids in the transfer, positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with hospital standards.

· Assists surgical team during each procedure as instructed, including passing instruments, operating specialty equipment, patient monitoring, handling of medications or specimens, replenishing supplies.

· Performs more advanced duties once competency is achieved.

· Assists with room turnover, including cleaning, restocking of supplies, and setup/cleaning/removal of equipment and instrumentation as needed.

What qualifications you will need:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Currently enrolled in a Surgical Technologist program.

· BLS within 30 days of hire.
