BAE Systems SSDS Engineering Technologist II in Wallops Island, Virginia
Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an Engineering Technologist II to join the Engineering Support Services (ESS) project providing critical systems engineering, integration, and testing support for the United States Navy's Ship s Self Defense System (SSDS). SSDS is a combat system specifically designed for anti-air defense of aircraft carriers, and other non-AEGIS United States Navy combat ships. The candidate will join the Test and Evaluation Task to support a diverse team of engineers, technologists, and veterans working to perfect a complex computer system vital to the Navy and their partners. This position will be located in Wallops Island, VA at the Surface Combat System Center (SCSC) and will support the AEGIS Technical Representative in Moorestown, NJ.
Candidate s primary role will involve support of the Navy customer in various technical aspects involving the development and integration of SSDS. The activity will feature customer support with test program implementation, execution, analysis, and report out in support of government computer program certification decisions.
The selected candidate will be expected to apply knowledge of the SSDS Weapon System in a test program designed to verify government acceptance requirements were met by the system developer. Candidate must be able to interpret SSDS system level specifications into testable requirements at the routine level, develop the test approach and detailed procedures to test those requirements, validate the detailed test methods, execute the formal test, and collect relevant test data. Post-test the candidate must analyze the collected data, and report out on the findings.
Secondary roles include review of technical specifications, defects, and related documents for accuracy and applicability, witnessing and assessment of tests conducted by the program developer and / or other Government agencies. Candidate will be expected to maintain existing expertise and quickly develop additional Subject Matter Expertise in assigned technical areas to assist management in maintaining a fully matrixed and integrated test team.
Candidate must possess excellent oral and written skills and be able to work independently when required. Candidate may be tasked with providing guidance to lower level employees. Generally, work hours are standard, but some second and / or third shift hours will be required. Little or no travel is expected, but willingness to travel in support of emergent customer needs is required.
One or more of the following abilities will be considered central to the position: US Navy / SSDS experience, perform and/or witness system level integration of computer programs, collection of relevant data, analysis of test results, documentation of equipment failures, tracking of problem resolutions, and reporting out on findings.
Generally, work hours are standard, but some second and/or third shift hours may be required. The position may occasionally involve travel to external test sites and might include off hours testing dictated by external factors governing equipment availability.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Education and required years of experience requirement:
6 years related work experience and a High School Diploma // 4 years related work experience and Associates Degree // 2 years related work experience and a Bachelor s degree with a preference given to the Computer Sciences, Mathematics, or General Science - Scientific Method disciplines.
Security Clearance requirement: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Due to an emergent need to provide continuity in services to our customer, the ability to hit the floor running is a requirement. The key components of this must have requirement are:
Ability to interpret government computer program specifications and convert the words into testable requirements.
Ability to properly execute customer approved tests, including assistance with documentation of the as run configuration pedigree
Ability to properly identify and assist with the collection of relevant data based upon approved test objectives.
Ability to analyze routine computer program performance from collected data.
Also required:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Office applications
Must be technically adept, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work independently as required

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $68700 - $116800

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
