Corteva Agriscience Field Supervisor in Waimea, Hawaii

Description

Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity on the westside of Kaua'i, Hawai'i, managing field plantings of Increases. This role supervises a small team responsible for the last step in creating new varieties of maize for global use. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of plant biology and/or plant breeding, be comfortable with computers, and be interested in working both indoors and in the field. You will be expected to work independently, applying your knowledge of Mendelian genetics to interpret genotypic and phenotypic data. Duties/Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Manage day-to-day activities in the Population Development Field team. This includes planting, tagging, pollinating, harvesting, and sorting harvested ears.

  • Manage the creation of experiments and the submission of sampling requests for genotyping jobs.

  • Organize and manage the genotypic and phenotypic data for experiments.

  • Select top-progeny based on genotypic and phenotypic data.

  • Supervise full-time employees and contingent workers, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with protocols and regulations.

  • Coordinate with other groups to ensure key steps are completed in a timely and collaborative manner.

  • Promote positive work attitudes and harmonious relations.

  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules, holidays, and weekends during peak periods when required.

  • Support all Hawaii Research Center goals and support other projects when needed.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Ability to manage people as part of a larger, culturally diverse group.

  • Understand and be able to apply knowledge of Mendelian genetics, plant biology, and basic agronomy.

  • Able and willing to apply crop-protection products for selection of tolerant plants.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Ability to bend, reach, and lift repetitively. Occasionally required to carry 20-50 lbs.

  • Tolerance, willingness, and ability to work in warm conditions and variable environments.

  • Computer competency and experience with MS Office- Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

  • Valid driver's license.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, plant breeding, agriculture, or related plant science field.

  • Two to four years related experience.

  • Alternatively, equivalent levels of relevant education and experience.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $68,500 - $85,630 yearly. This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
