JEA Technical Support Associate in United States

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, provides support to substation groups by receiving, delivering, transporting and/or disposing of equipment, tools, and materials to help expedite the completion of substation work in an efficient and timely manner. Makes routine repairs and adjustments to basic substation electrical equipment not exceeding 240V such as minor electrical repairs to AC and DC systems including sump pumps. Maintains substation laboratory test equipment and calibration schedules to ensure test equipment is readily available for use by field personnel. Works with vendors and manufacturers to schedule and ship items for repair. Measures and constructs shipping containers for a variety of substation equipment. Creates and installs labeling for electrical equipment. Solves routine problems within established parameters and identifies responses to new and unusual situations. Regular contact with internal and external customers, suppliers and contractors at all organizational levels is required. Have the ability negotiate pickup and delivery schedules and resolve problems in a customer friendly manner. May be required to work extended periods of overtime during power outage and restoration conditions.

  • Performs job assignments within the location of high voltage substations and power plants containing energized equipment up to 230kv.
  • Assess, repairs, and maintains low to nominal voltage equipment (120V/240V) such as house service throwovers, indicating lights, sump pumps, DC systems, etc.
  • Analyze, assess, and organize substation laboratory test equipment. Maintains calibration schedules and field support materials, including Doble test sets, Vanguard timers, Meggers, & SF6 Analyzers. Works with manufacturers to ship out equipment for repairs and calibrations.
  • Conducts routine laboratory and substation control house operation checks using low voltage digital multimeter.
  • Compute dimensions, measurements, laser distancing calculations and prepare drawings of layouts for constructing scaffold supports, pallets, and beams to be used in transport or relocation of various substation equipment for over the road transport.
  • Create, maintain, and edit software documents for analyzing, tracking, and other purposes.
  • Escort contract services and others into substation area for specialty work.
  • Initiate computerized service requests for locations requiring repair work by facilities and others.
  • Pick up and stage material for scheduled work.
  • Pick-up deliver and transport unused parts, equipment, and debris for field personnel.
  • Perform pick-ups and returns to inventory from contract firms.
  • Create, modify, and install equipment labels and signage.
  • Update and maintain fleet asset key inventory primary and master key lockers.
  • Transfer unused and/or empty SF6 and nitrogen bottles using forklift and/or vehicles.
  • Maintain master list of consumable materials inventory for ordering.
  • Transport, maintain, and receipt test equipment repairs and calibrations from local firms.
  • Crate and ship packages to vendors; Create shipping labels for couriers such as FedEx and UPS
  • Transfer obsolete and defective equipment to investment recovery.
  • Support material delivery and relocation for other departments during system emergencies.
  • Ensures compliance with safety rules, regulations and practices as required by JEA and O.S.H.A.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

_OPEN REQUIREMENTS_

Education: High school diploma or equivalency

AND

Experience:Three (3) years combination of education, training or experience in performing technical, mechanical, or electrical trade work.

_License/Certification/Registration_

A valid driver's license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.

A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License is required within twelve months of employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.

The starting pay for this position is $23.91 per hour.
