U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Survey Technician in United States

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: You will be responsible for the day-to-day work of accomplishing pre-post dredge and conditional surveys in support of channel maintenance of navigable waterways, including foreign waters. Responsibilities Surveys are performed in support of dredge contracts, Government dredges, and published maps. You will serve as a field specialist on hardware and software systems used in hydrographic surveys. You will plan and carry out the work involved in acquisition of hydrographic survey data for channel monitoring and dredging purposes, utilizing sensitive electronic automated surveying equipment. You will collect and edit single beam and multibeam data to assure accuracy by performing appropriate overlap checks and comparisons following standardized software processes of quality assurance. You will make minor corrections and repairs and recommends action to be taken, including replacement or sending devices to the manufacturer or contact software vendor for corrections or updates. You will ensure equipment is in proper working order, i.e. has equipment repaired, sent out for preventative maintenance as needed, surpluses broken or outdated equipment as needed. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience at the GS-10 level is defined as: demonstrated experience utilizing specialized hardware and software used in hydrographic surveying. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09 level. OR You must have a master's degree or higher in a related field, or have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR You must have less than the full amount of graduate education described "above" and less than the amount of specialized experience as described in "above," but you can have a combination of the type of graduate education described in "above" and the kind of experience described "above." When combining education and experience, first take the number of graduate-level semester credits (or equivalent) earned in excess of 18, and divide by 18 semester credits (or equivalent); then take the number of months of experience divided by 12 months; finally add the two percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Specialized experience at the GS-09 level is defined as: training and/or experience in methods and practices sufficient to plan, carry out, and monitor a wide variety of hydro survey projects and activities with limited supervision or guidance to carryout work requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-08 level. OR You have a master's degree or higher in a related field, or I have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR You must have less than the full amount of graduate education described "above" and less than the amount of specialized experience as described in "above," but you can have a combination of the type of graduate education described in "above" and the kind of experience described "above." When combining education and experience, first take the number of graduate-level semester credits (or equivalent) earned in excess of 18, and divide by 18 semester credits (or equivalent); then take the number of months of experience divided by 12 months; finally add the two percentages together. OR You have a master's degree or higher in a related field, or I have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR You must have less than the full amount of graduate education described "above" and less than the amount of specialized experience as described in "above," but you can have a combination of the type of graduate education described in "above" and the kind of experience described "above." Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Management may select at any grade level. Incumbent may be eligible for non-competitive promotion to target position upon meeting time-in-grade restrictions. During the performance of field duties the incumbent is required to work in difficult terrain and is subject to the hazards of temperature extremes, sunburn, snake and insect bites, infection from poisonous plants, injury from brush-cutting tools, and falling from boats and other equipment.
