GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Corrections is seeking a candidate for the position of Support Services Administrator at Cheyenne Central Office. This position is responsible for the duties assigned to the Support Services Division, one (1) of three (3) operating divisions within the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC). The Support Services Division is integral to the success of the WDOC. It is responsible for the Training Academy, construction, and major maintenance for the five (5) WDOC facilities, department compliance and audit functions which include the Adult Community Corrections facilities, Correctional Industries and the management of internal data and information systems, and reviewing and providing resolutions for inmate Americans with Disabilities (ADA) complaints.

This position is at-will and serves at the discretion of the WDOC Director and under the supervision of the Deputy Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Lead efforts to develop and support training and staff development initiatives that will benefit the agency well into the future. This includes overseeing the agency pre-service training academy, in-house executive-level training, and first-line supervisor training; as well as being the point of contact for training initiatives with the National Institute of Corrections.

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day duties of the Support Services Division.

  • Serve as part of the agency executive management team and contribute to decisions that impact the Agency as a whole.

  • Participate in initiatives and activities to implement the agency’s major projects including the upgrade of department security electronics, the demolition of buildings and the eventual replacement of the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming; and the development and implementation of a new agency offender management system.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference is given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, or a related field plus eight (8) years of experience working in corrections;

A Master’s degree is a plus. Demonstrated passion for staff development. Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale and/or high-risk projects.

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with stakeholders. Experience in executive-level leadership.

A background that spans the correctional continuum includes direct work with inmates/offenders.

Preference is given to candidates with experience at the level of Warden, Deputy Warden, Associate Warden, Region Manager, District Manager, or Central Office.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the State of Wyoming legislative process.

  • Knowledge of corrections and experience in corrections management and leadership

  • Knowledge of state statutes, other rules and regulations, and policies.

  • Knowledge of advanced leadership and supervisor skills.

  • Knowledge of budget preparation, projections, and record keeping.

  • Knowledge of correctional industries.

  • Knowledge of National Correctional Best Practice Standards, State Standards (policy and procedures), facility

procedures, and some correctional case law.

  • Working knowledge of Facility Operations (Security, Programming, and Support); and thorough knowledge at the

administration level of operating and managing a correctional facility.
