DHS Headquarters Social Worker (Child Well-Being Program) in United States

Summary This position is located in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Headquarters (DHS/HQ), Office of Health Security (OHS). OHS is the principal medical, workforce health and safety and public health authority for DHS. The DHS Child Well-Being (CWB) Program, located within the OHS Healthcare Systems and Oversight Directorate (HCSOD) Border Health Division (BHD), is comprised of an interdisciplinary cohort of professionals who work to address CWB needs across the immigration system. Responsibilities As a Social Worker (Child Well-Being Program), GS-0185-13, your typical work assignments may include the following: Provide clinical oversight, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement, with focus on pediatric populations in the care of DHS. Supports the day-to-day management of the contracted CWB Specialists and Lead Specialists, including coordinating with DHS components in the field, and facilitates needed information sharing between contracted CWB Specialists/Lead Specialists and the CWB Program Manager. In coordination with the CWB Federal Staff cohort, the CWB Program Manager, and the appropriate DHS component points of contact, assigns contracted CWB Specialists to field locations within the sector based on environmental circumstances and factors. Conducts regular oversight meetings with the contracted CWB Lead Specialists overseen to discuss key trends and provide programmatic, clinical and professional development. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATION REQUIREMENT This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement that must be met prior to meeting the specialized experience. Education Degree: Social Work. Must fulfill all the requirements for a Master's degree to include a practicum in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE You qualify for the GS-13 if you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service (GS-12) or public/private sector equivalent experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Expert knowledge of program management and oversight principles, practice and procedures in order to provide expertise in trauma informed care and child welfare programming within the immigration context. Expert knowledge and skill in planning, organizing, oversight and executing various functions in support of Organization delivery of operational child welfare services. Experience of and skill in applying concepts, principles, and methodologies of children and family related mental health, welfare, and community services planning, including those related to immigration and mass migration events. Expert knowledge of social work and expertise in trauma informed care, immigration, child wellbeing, vulnerable populations, mental health and/or other related areas to perform short- and long-term planning, implementation, oversight, monitoring, process improvement, analysis, and evaluation of the Child Well-Being (CWB) Program.
