Position Summary

The Senior Network Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for supporting and administering the LAN & WAN infrastructure, (Cisco, Checkpoint, etc.), within the corporate office, two co-located data centers, and the AWS cloud. This position also provides network technical support for projects and operational processes when necessary to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of the Bank’s technology performs as expected. This role works closely with all technology teams and will partner with and take technical direction from the Principal Network Engineers to ensure day-to-day support of the network environment is accomplished effectively.

This role will be about 80% day-to-day tasks and responsibilities and 20% focused on projects.

This position is classified as sensitive and is subject to a credit check.

This role will have a hybrid work schedule in our Boston office in accordance with the Bank’s Hybrid Work Program. More time will be encouraged in the office to support onboarding initially.

Specific Responsibilities

· Accountable for the daily administration, monitoring, maintenance and support of the LAN & WAN environment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within two co-located datacenters and the Bank’s increasing presence within the AWS cloud.

· Act as and escalation point and backup for the Sr. Telecom Administrator supporting the Bank’s voice network.

· Monitor the day-to-day work requests and incident (break/fix) trouble tickets.

· Manage the inventory (CMDB), vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing and renewal processes for the networking environment, circuits, equipment and applications.

· Partner with User Support (help desk), to handle escalated calls and to also provide training for basic tasks that may be appropriately handled at the User Support (helpdesk) level.

· Participate as needed in technology projects assuming the role of subject matter expert for network related aspects of the project.

· Participate in regularly scheduled disaster recovery exercises and on-site support at the Bank’s Westborough and Waltham, MA locations.

· Provide 24x7 on-call support when necessary and carry a bank-issued smart phone to respond to off hours support issues.

· Provide detailed, professional technical documentation.

· Other duties, as assigned.

Education

· B.S. degree with a Computer Science related curriculum or equivalent experience is required.

Experience

· 3-5 years of network administration, configuration and support skills preferably in a Cisco environment.

· 3-5 years of firewall administration, configuration and support skills preferably in a Checkpoint environment.

· Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service, (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.

· Hands on exposure working with AWS or Azure cloud networks.

· Exposure to a financial services or other highly regulated environment preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

· Solid network maintenance and support background with hands-on, real-world experience working with network virtualization/cloud technologies such as AWS, or Microsoft Azure.

· Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

· Strong technical documentation skills.

· Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor.

· Must be a self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills and can exercise independent judgment while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion.

· A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility.

· Must have excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within technical and non-technical teams, adapting communication and presentation style for the intended audience.

· Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn IaaS, DevOps methodologies.

· Basic familiarity of the AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation
