What We Want
The Research Technician I, under general supervision, will perform entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. This position will contribute to cutting-edge projects focused on post-transcriptional regulation of RNA during cellular stress, cancer and viral infection. The Research Technician I will support ongoing projects in the lab in addition to starting new ones in collaboration with senior researchers in the group and the principal investigator (Dr. Bard). What You Need to Know
Salary: $16.72 per hour
Special Note: Due to this position's salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience in a biomedical research or related capacity
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to build a positive work environment and be helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented
Strong work ethic, organizational abilities, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Basic understanding of molecular biology and the central dogma
Preferred Education and Experience:
B.S. in a natural science or engineering
Prior research experience in a biomedical research lab.
Basic familiarity with at least one computer programming language.
Responsibilities:
Work-bench Experiments: Carries out experiments to support research projects in the lab, including human tissue culture, molecular biology assays like DNA, RNA, and protein extraction from various mammalian samples/tissues, qPCR, next-generation sequencing library generation, Western blot, cloning, in vitro protein expression, and microscopy. Research activities will also include human tissue culture, virology, microscopy, molecular cloning, RNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, and biochemical techniques such as western blotting, protein purification, and immunoprecipitation.
Data Analysis, Notebook Reporting and presentation: Performs analysis of experimental data including, if appropriate, bioinformatic analysis using a High-Performance Research Computing cluster. Reports experimental design and results in a lab notebook and generates figures for use at presentation in lab meetings and for external presentations.
Support for lab-wide research productivity: Assists with maintaining a clean and productive research environment. Tracks and manages lab inventory, prepares common stock solutions, washes and organizes glassware, maintains lab databases and cell lines. Helps to manage lab operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, washing dishes, and preparing stock solutions for the group, as well as performing other duties as combined.
