Job Description

The Program Specialist I, will provide supervision of 450-500 incoming freshman students in the residence halls during the Summer Bridge Program. The Summer Bridge Program is a five-week program for incoming freshmen to become acquainted with our University. Selected candidates will live in the residence halls with the students. Must be available during the week and on weekends to perform the duties of this position. Housing and meals are provided for the 5-week program.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

• Supervision of 450-500 incoming freshman students in the residence halls during the Summer Bridge Program. Promote and uphold a secure environment within the residence hall. Supervision of all summer bridge student counselors (upper-class students) while in the residence halls.

• Conducts health and welfare checks. Assists students with housing and medical issues.

• Provides conflict resolution between students. Enforces university policy and Student Code of Conduct.

• Provides the official training of all summer bridge student counselors (upper-class students).

• Provides weekend activities for the summer bridge participants and rides with students to Walmart trips on the weekends.

• Assist with student move-in/move-out processes. Performs other duties as assigned.

  Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• No prior experience required.

  Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

• Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.

  Special Requirements:

• Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of four years of experience.
