Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is seeking a Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Antonio, Texas office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within commutable distance of the office).
Responsibilities
The Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.
Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high-voltage utility substations including, but not limited to:
One-line diagrams
Schematics
Wiring diagrams
SCADA
Communications
Station physical layouts
Sections/Elevations
Cable and conduit plans and details
Ground grid design and details
Foundation plans and details
Structural plans and details
Control enclosure design and details
Lightning protection plans
Yard lighting plans
Construction cost estimates and contracts
Bill of Materials
Project scheduling and coordination
Site visits
Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
Occasional travel will be required
Required Education/Experience
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards
Experience in managing small project teams
Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
Engineer in Training (EIT) registration
Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above
Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months
Managerial and leadership skills a plus
