Responsibilities This is not a remote position. The duty station of this position may remain that of the selectee or may be any USGS location that is agreed upon by the selecting official and the selectee. If the agreed upon location results in the relocation of the selectee, the travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are authorized and will be paid by the Federal Government. As a Regional Management Officer (RMO) within the Southwest Regional Office, some of your specific duties will include: Serve as the principal advisor to the Southwest Regional Director and other senior managers on all business management activities in the Region. Conceive, develop, implement, and evaluate Region-wide business management policies, programs, systems, and procedures. Lead the development and implementation of a planning and evaluation process that will help the Region meet its administrative goals and objectives. Develop short and long-term strategies and plans for the annual budget of and workforces planning activities. Provide and/or manage the provision of business management and technical assistance to the managers, supervisors, and employees throughout the Region. Undertake special management studies and analytical assessments to identify problems and recommend solutions that achieve Bureau and Departmental initiatives and improve quality of information used in decision making. Oversee staff who provide program, budget, and fiscal support for the Region. Requirements Conditions of Employment Key Requirements: Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year supervisory probationary period. Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued. A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-14 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-13 level work may include: formulating complex programs; conducting complex studies on assembly analysis, and interpretation of data; planning, organizing, completing several complex project assignments requiring coordination of work; and utilizing administrative/financial data systems. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the above requirements.
