Job Summary

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine field collection and laboratory testing/analysis of water samples from various sources to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards.

Essential Functions

• Collect water samples from monitoring wells, wastewater treatment facilities, or other locations.

• Prepares microbiological media, reagents, and standards used in analytical testing.

• Performs analytical testing for ammonia, carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), fecal coliform, nitrate, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), or other parameters.

• Performs quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of samples and test results.

• Maintains logs, charts, computer records, and other records of sampling activities, laboratory analysis, testing results, or other activities in compliance with regulatory and laboratory certification requirements.

• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with laboratory operations, which may include a scale/balance, nanopore water system, de-ionized water system, autoclave, spectrophotometer, pH meter, auto analyzer, or other laboratory instrumentation or sampling equipment.

• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical degree required.

  • Candidates without a related degree should possess an additional one (1) year of related experience.

  • One (1) year of previous experience and/or training that includes routine environmental laboratory operations and analysis, environmental field sampling, and/or water or wastewater utility operations.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805. Fingerprinting required.

  • Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.

  • Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
