Job Description

The Division of Science and Mathematics in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE) is committed to incorporating student-centered learning practices and programs in the curriculum and training the students with the essential skills to succeed in their respective fields. The division invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track (for Assistant Professor) or non-tenure track (for Instructor) position to begin in Spring 2025.

New faculty may be appointed to a 10-month contract during their first year of employment to provide additional time for orientation/course development.

The division serves both biology majors and non-majors taking science courses for their core curriculum, Nursing students, and Kinesiology students. We offer the Bachelor of Science in Biology degree with minors in Chemistry, Pre-Health, and Environmental Sciences. The B.S. in Biology degree is a broad undergraduate degree which prepares students for the modern workplace, pre-professional (e.g., medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary) or graduate school. The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching, scholarship, and service, and will be expected to foster the growth of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching: Teach twelve (12) credit hours per long semester (15 credit hours for the instructor rank). Teaching duties will include offering Human Anatomy & Physiology classes and the associated labs, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and other courses in the course catalog, and courses in their specialization. Teaching responsibilities may include day and/or evening classes, online and/or hybrid classes.

  • Administrative Support: Assist the division/department in implementing short and long-term goals to enhance educational and research outcomes.

  • Additional Responsibilities (Assistant Professor Rank Only): Assist in student recruitment, curriculum development, mentoring, and serving on college/university committees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in biology.

  • Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited college/university (Teaching or Graduate assistantship does not count as full-time teaching).

  • Eligibility work in the U.S. at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience in teaching Anatomy and Physiology, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Animal Nutrition, Herpetology, or Vertebrate Biology courses.

  • Evidence of research productivity, including publication of peer-reviewed research and competitive extramural funding, and an ability to foster collaborative, extramurally funded Natural Sciences projects and/or research.

  • Record of advising students on research projects leading to publications or presentations at scientific meetings
