The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. Salary:

$5,705.43 - $9,166.66 per month commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

The Infrastructure Administrator, under general direction, provides technical leadership for multiple complex unit-level projects or operations utilizing multiple technical fields. Responsible for the architecture, design, and continued support of all infrastructure, software applications, and computers in use by The Texas A&M University System Offices, including applications that affect the entire System as a whole. Research, evaluate and remediate cybersecurity threats. Develop technical standards for implementing projects/operations and provide consultation on and implementation of technology solutions to assist the organization in achieving its goals and objectives.

This position is located in College Station, Texas and is not eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of virtual environments, including research, design, installation, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of virtual appliances, servers, and applications, along with underlying physical host, network, and data storage. Establishing best practices, procedures, and policies for virtual infrastructure administration.- Local area network support, encompassing server hardware and software administration, security, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, training, and consultation. Operating Systems supported include Windows Servers and PCs. Server services supported include file, print, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL, IIS, Apache Tomcat, and RRAS VPN. Conduct data backup for disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Liaison with vendors and external computing agencies (e.g. TAMU Technology Services). Perform core duties of a System Administrator.- Support for personal computer hardware and software, including maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, training, and consultation. Research, evaluation, purchase assistance, recommendation, implementation, and consulting on technology products for all departments.- Collaboration with department heads and representatives to discuss business requirements, review processes, and develop/implement technical solutions.- Server security through operating system hardening, scanning, patching, and malware removal.- Assist management in researching, designing, and implementing IT-based methods and procedures to improve business processes.- Installation of personal computer images, software patches, and upgrades using centralized administration tools and/or custom scripts.- Consultation with other System members on implementing new technology solutions.- Additional duties as assigned.

Customer Support/Operation:- Resource for internal and external customers.- Centralized support for departmental computer needs, including advanced technical support.- Installation, upgrading, and configuration of workstation hardware and software.- Technical oversight on problem research and solution recommendations.- Management and monitoring of web-based help desk incident tracking system.- Maximization of uptime and minimization of potential problems for computing resources.- Meetings with department heads and staff to determine information needs and requirements.- Specification development for workstation hardware and software purchases.- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with departmental or project quality standards.- Participation in training and professional development.- On-call support as needed.

Special Projects:- Maintenance of collaborative relationships with stakeholders, customers, and vendors.- Contribution to annual risk assessment reports.- Assistance in maintaining data security and security procedure compliance at various levels.- Technical oversight, training, and creation of knowledge base articles and training material for departmental computing resources.- Documentation of support methods and procedures.

Innovation and Collaboration with Colleagues and Customers:- Strategic planning for computing and communication.- Senior member of an information resource team helping to establish technical direction.- Collaboration with System Office colleagues to develop strategies, methods, and solutions for emerging and persistent problems.

Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.- Two years of experience in system administration, application development, and support.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.- Must have strong interpersonal skills.- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.- Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
