As part of Enterprise Information Security Tool Engineering, the Security Engineer XDR Platform Security Traditional is responsible for executing and supporting Extended Detection and Response platforms across the enterprise. Partnering with key stakeholders in Cyber Defense Operations to ensure their use cases are met while ensuring the platform health and readiness are aligned with best practices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in engineering design and operational escalation needs, such as but not limited to the following infrastructures: Host-based Intrusion Detection/Prevention System (HIDS/HIPS), End Point Detection and Response (EDR), Host-based Firewalls, Advanced Threat Protection and Malware protections, Managed Security Service partner platforms / Software as a Service (SaaS)

  • Technical Design and Documentation- Experience drafting technical engineering designs for security services and infrastructure. Provide high quality documentation to hand off responsibility towards security’s operational support groups

  • Responsible for responding to and investigate escalated security events, such as but not limited to the following security disciplines: Internal Customer facing security products like host-based firewalls, host-based Intrusion Prevention, end point detection and response, Anti-virus, and other products under development

  • Project work - identify trends based on operations escalations, metrics and develop requirements for scale of our protection products. Responsible for Engineering acceptance of new infrastructure and processes, process development, process refinement, and providing operational guidance

  • Leads efforts to ensure adequate security processes and solutions to mitigate or remediate identified risks sufficiently to meet business objectives, contractual and/or regulatory requirements

  • Ensures proper security logs are generated and sent to the organization’s Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system

  • Leverage automation and orchestration solutions to automate repetitive tasks

  • Broker a collaborative security culture to the larger Optum community

  • Solves ambiguous, complex problems with sustainable solutions that will work with a diverse set of customers across multiple cloud service providers

  • Collaborates with director, managers, project managers, architects, and other technical leads to ensure continuity and communication across teams

Other Responsibilities:

  • Mentors and coaches cyber security individuals to provide guidance and expertise, promoting continued integration of technological advances to further enhance security

  • Create best practices that enable customers remediation of vulnerabilities and device hardening to meet industry baseline standards

  • Research, investigate, and test new capabilities to help solve customer problems in the on prem solution and cloud

  • Build and expand effective relationships with constituent stakeholders – affiliates, audit and compliance, application and platform teams, and the larger EIS

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)

  • 2+ years of experience in information security engineering

  • 1+ years of experience drafting detailed technical documentation including security and network diagram

  • 1+ years of experience in network, compute, database, and middleware technologies as it applies to security protection and vulnerability profile technologies

  • 1+ years of experience evaluating current technologies and understanding how to secure; Networks, Cloud, micro services, hybrid environments, etc

  • 1+ years of experience of how to harden and fortify a device through configuration

  • 1+ years of experience in using Agile/Kanban methodology to track and complete work

  • 1+ years of experience creating User Stories with clearly defined acceptance criteria

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to leverage best practices from commonly used frameworks to define and mature delivery models (ex: HiTrust, Agile, COBIT, ITIL, etc.)

  • Familiarity and/or fluency with devsecops(e.g. Coding/Scripting)

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred

  • Must be well versed in networking, operating systems (e.g. Linux, Windows, etc.), active directory, authorization and authentication, and databases.

  • Technical network (e.g. Azure/GCP Architect, CCNP Security) and security certifications desired (e.g. CISA, CISSP, GCIH, CCSK)

  • Knowledge of the healthcare, distribution, or software industries is a plus.

  • CISSP, CISM and/or SANS certification a plus.

  • Certifications related to security (such as Security+, GSEC, GCIH, GCIA, CISSP, NCSF, etc.) preferred

California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C Residents Only : The hourly range for California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C residents is $70,200 to $137,800 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
