The Wyoming State Fair is seeking a dynamic and versatile Facility Maintenance and Events Assistant to join our team. Position Overview:

The Wyoming State Fairgrounds and Events Complex is searching for someone that is

energetic and ready to show off their skills in the exciting position of Facility Maintenance and Events Assistant for the beautiful Wyoming State Fair.

This position is crucial for customer service by cleaning and preparing buildings and

grounds for event set up and tear down for the many interim events that take place throughout as well as the annual Wyoming State Fair. These exciting events include banquets, fundraisers, weddings, receptions, business parties, and more!

This important role will also assist with performing building maintenance, snow removal, mowing and weed eating, equine and barn cleaning, as well as assisting in various projects on the entire 137 acres of the Wyoming State facility.

  • Play a crucial role in setting the stage for our annual Wyoming State Fair along with various other events throughout the year.

  • Dive into a variety of tasks, from event setup and teardown to groundskeeping, ensuring our 137-acre facility is in top condition.

  • Show off your skills in event setup, keeping the facility clean, maintenance, snow removal, lawn care, and more, keeping our facilities welcoming and safe for visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Works in the capacity of any specialist trade area (lawn care, venue set up / tear down, with work in carpentry; painting, or locksmith as needed).

  • Performs preventive maintenance and janitorial duties in building facilities.

  • Responsible for weed and pest control, mowing, trimming, aerating, trimming, and planting trees, repairing and maintenance of sprinkler and irrigation systems, and removing snow and ice in addition to other general grounds work.

  • Assists with special functions, event building set up and tear down, which includes setting up pens and panels, moving bleachers, moving stage, trash removal, and other labor-demanding tasks that occur at the WSF fairgrounds, during the annual Wyoming State Fair and year-round events.

  • Attends training and meetings. Must be willing and able to travel for training and meetings if required.

  • Performs all other general building and grounds repair and maintenance, as assigned.

  • Performs general mechanical maintenance and repairs.

  • Performs weekly building inspections.

  • Effectively operates heavy and light equipment. Performs maintenance of plumbing and sprinkler systems.

  • Performs carpentry duties.

  • Performs inventory as needed.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

**Must be 18 years of age or older to operate any and all equipment which includes the operation of all power-driven machines.

**A valid driver's license

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.

  • Knowledge and driving capabilities in the operations of light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, riding lawnmowers, line trimmers, chain saws, blowers, sprayers, floor sander, rakes, shovels, hand saws, small tools, tractors, bobcats, skid steers, forklift, 4 wheeler, ATVs and any other equipment associated with grounds and buildings care operations.

  • Knowledge of blueprints and sketches.

  • Knowledge of power and manual tools.

  • Knowledge of basic computer operation/computer literacy

  • Knowledge of general maintenance.

  • Knowledge of safety principles and safety training on assigned equipment.

  • Knowledge of a variety of other maintenance issues such as building, mechanical, and grounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, bio-hazards, and potential explosives.

  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.

  • Performs heavy, manual labor for extended periods, frequently lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more such as livestock pen panels, shavings, trash dumpsters, road barriers, chairs and tables, and all other equipment needs.

  • Exposure to variable weather conditions.

  • Ability to work in and around dust, rain, wind, snow, manure, cold/heat, and around all kinds of animals.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • The successful applicant must pass a background information check which includes taking fingerprints.

  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overtime as required.

  • Overtime rate will be paid at time and a half for any hours worked over the forty hours in the State of Wyoming work week.

  • Must be able to work long hours/days/nights during the annual Wyoming State Fair held in August every year.

  • Must be able to interact with large and small groups of people to meet their needs in the customer service area.
