Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff of mechanical designers and engineers and conduct personnel activities for the department, such as recruitment, hiring, training, development, performance evaluations, and compensation management.

  • Work in close collaboration with the Manager of Project Management and the Master Scheduler to establish and maintain the schedule for all active projects involving engineering drawing submittals and fabrication releases; make, track and, adjust, as necessary based on prioritization, weekly assignments to each department member so they are fully utilized.

  • Manage the efficient allocation and management of team labor to ensure high quality and productivity through effectively using the collective skills of the team.

  • Close coordination with the Xylem Treatment Engineering Team in the India Technical Center (ITC) to leverage effective use of design and engineering support resources in the ITC.

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams and functions of the Xylem Treatment business (engineering teams for other brands, Project Management, Sales/Application Engineering, Product Management, Operations, etc.) on resource sharing, standardization, lessons learned, best practice adaptation, etc.

  • Lead the team in identifying and implementing more efficient use of Creo, AutoCAD, Windchill, BIM and other engineering software and design tools for improving efficiency and quality of engineering execution work; also work with team to improve how bills of materials are generated and entered into our ERP system for releasing orders.

  • Coordinate with Xylem IT and Engineering Tool Managers to ensure the design team has optimal hardware, software and network capabilities to conduct highly efficient execution of project work assignments.

  • Update and improve all applicable written procedures, methodologies for guiding execution work for the mechanical design team, and improving standard operating procedures.

  • Coordinate and prioritize activities of the Product Test and Development Engineer responsible for conducting aeration testing at the aeration test tank facility.

  • Maintain and optimize electronic management of portfolio-wide and project specific drawings and related documentation.

  • Develop improvement initiatives for moving towards fully digitized engineering submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, and other associated engineering documentation needed for project execution.

  • Collaborate with the Application Engineering team to enhance process for generating bid support drawings and preliminary submittal drawings directly from our engineering design, costing and proposal generation tool (Treatment Select).

  • Ensure quality control/quality assurance procedures are followed by the department and personally conduct systematic quality reviews for select projects.

  • Drive continuous improvement culture and accomplishments; work with other Treatment Team Leaders to identify top areas in need of improvement and standardization followed by the design and implementation of actions to improve our execution efficiencies, quality and project/brand profitability.

  • Drive a highly responsive culture for providing outstanding customer focus (both for internal and external customers), on-time delivery and responsive and accurate communications.

  • Collaborate with our field service coordination team on if and when we should have mechanical designers leveraged to conduct routine field service activities for select installations, to accommodate field service needs and better training and product/system expertise for the designer team.

  • Proactive participation with other members of the local and national Treatment leadership team to drive engaged, collaborative, unified and inspirational leadership to the broader Treatment team.

  • Stewardship and participation with Xylem Watermark activities.

  • Works effectively within matrixed organizations, across Xylem and with external partner organizations to address challenges and collaborate on solutions that optimally address larger organizations as well as local team goals.

  • Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with and within the team and other departments.

  • Identifies employee development needs and provides coaching tailored to each need, dealing effectively with difficult performance issues while actively developing high potentials.

  • Responds to routine customer inquiries and provides customer basic support

  • Comply with all Xylem corporate policies, procedures and training requirements

  • Travel to project sites, supplier’s factories, and technical conferences, as necessary

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Associate's degree in mechanical engineering; Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related discipline preferred

  • At least five years of experience in Creo Parametric (Pro/E), Autodesk AutoCAD, and similar engineering design tools

  • Experience in managing engineering teams

  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work independently

  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

  • Working knowledge of Windchill or other data management system

  • Working in the office performing design and administrative functions, in the panel shop performing simulation and testing of control systems, and in both water and wastewater treatment plants.

  • Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.

  • Potential for up to 10% domestic and international travel

  • Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours

Salary range:

$70,500.00 - $126,500.00
