General Summary

The Employer Relations Coordinator, under supervision of the Assistant Director for Career and Professional Development, cultivates and strengthens relations with and between employers, students, alumni and faculty. Assists in securing full-time and part-time employment opportunities and student internships by on campus employer engagement, and working as a team with the other Employer Relations Coordinator to increase job postings, recruitment efforts, and hiring activities. Working with another Employer Relations Coordinator, this position will primarily focus on creating and developing opportunities and determining the best method for off-campus employers to engage with our students, alumni and the campus community.

The normal work week is 40 hours per week from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work required.

This job posting represents two open positions: Employer Relations Coordinator - External and Employer Relations Coordinator - Internal. Candidates will be considered for either position depending on experience

Responsibilities:

Strategic Employer Development

  • Works to increase the number of employers interacting with students through Career and Professional Development, and works to increase participation from organizations that underutilize Career and Professional Development

  • Develops strategies for employer recruitment by utilizing: data from students from each college, employer engagement data, job market demand projections, trends in recruiting, job offer data and hiring results of employers

  • Develop and foster relationships with internal and external partners to advance student success and post graduate outcomes

  • Participates in alumni events, conferences, job fairs, networking events, and other various local, regional, state and national organizations to network on behalf of Career and Professional Development

  • Creates and implements communication strategy to encourage employer participation with Career and Professional Development

  • Assist with the creation, management, and coordination of the Local Employer Advisory Council

  • Manage and expand Employer Partnerships with the Office of Career and Professional Development

  • Works with the other ERC position (which focuses internally) to:

  • Provide a seamless experience engaging and connecting employers with the Office of Career and Professional Development

  • Increase the number of employers interacting with students through Career and Professional Development at events, information sessions, tabling, etc. and works to increase participation from entities that underutilize the Office of Career and Professional Development

  • Assist with the creation, management, and coordination of the Local Employer Advisory Council

  • Manage and expand Employer Partnerships with the Office of Career and Professional Development

  • Provide information to the internal ERC to collaborate with faculty and staff to increase employment opportunities for students

Employer Relations

  • Develop, establish, and maintain relationships with representatives of prospective and current employers in order to expand experiential learning opportunities, full-time positions, entrepreneurial, and other professional opportunities

  • Provide support for all databases and systems used for employer information and data collection

  • Researches, contacts and visits recruiters and hiring managers in the local area, state, and region

  • Recruits employers and assists with the coordination of career fairs, on-campus interviews, job shadowing opportunities, internships, mock interviews, professional speaker series, workshops and networking events

  • Facilitates relationships between employers and the University community, including students, faculty, staff, Alumni Association, etc.

  • Works closely with other staff to develop internship and part-time job opportunities for students.

Administrative Tasks

  • Provide support to employers who utilize jobs database by approving employers and position postings

  • Participates in administrative staff meetings.

  • Provides input for budget planning, strategic planning, goal setting, monthly and annual reports, etc.

  • Compiles and reports data on employer relations activities, assess employer relations efforts and provides feedback as to the effectiveness of such efforts.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three (3) years of related experience

  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong ethical, analytical and relationship building skills.

  • Experience in effectively building and managing professional external and internal relationships.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students; community, business and industry leaders; and University personnel required.

  • Exhibits a dynamic, motivated, and enthusiastic work style.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, written communication, time management, and decision-making skills.

  • Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple demanding projects.

  • Excellent computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Willing to travel both locally and regionally to visit employers.

  • Must be comfortable in and familiar with a team-centered, cross-trained, collaborative environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • Proven public relations, human resources and/or sales/marketing experience.

  • Experience in marketing and strategic planning.

  • Experience with college career center or recruiting, from a higher education or a business perspective.

  • Knowledge of database applications.
