Nammo Defense Systems, Inc Director of HESS in United States
JOB OVERVIEW
The Director of HESS role oversees and leads the development, coordination, execution of all Nammo Group (Corporate) Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) initiatives. You will be responsible for shaping and strengthening Nammo’s safety culture for all the Nammo Group US-based sites. As Director of HESS, you will constantly evaluate US production facilities and provide guidance to senior operations and executive leadership regarding risk, audit and corrective actions. You will identify critical near miss and incident events for organization level awareness and training.
The ideal candidate possesses an assertive, direct, approachable and professional demeanor and is action-oriented in the execution and leadership of all things HESS.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Support developing, coordinating, and executing HESS strategy, policy and directives regarding occupational health and safety in coordination with Nammo AS (Corporate) HESS
· Responsible for ensuring that HESS related policies, directives, templates, etc. are updated and available within the US-based IT network in coordination with Nammo AS (Corporate) HESS
· Develop and manage a robust internal HESS Program that includes accident prevention, safety, HAZMAT handling/disposal, incident reporting, environmental protection, emergency plans, etc.
· Be the subject matter expert and ensure compliance to all federal, state, local, and customer regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA, etc.) specific to each location.
· Act as the HESS point of contact for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) for all contracts to coordinate DCMA Ammunition and Explosives (AE) pre/post-award safety surveys.
· Manage monthly HESS KPI’s and strategic objectives to monitor and support company-wide improvement actions
· Coordinate with Risk Engineering Services to execute site assessments to provide an overview of strengths and weaknesses for each US-based site
· Coordination of monthly reporting to include accident, near-miss and hazardous condition reporting for US-based sites
· Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Nammo Group to develop and update content for onboarding and continuing training for occupational health and safety related topics
· Develop and convey Safety Alerts and communications during natural disasters, severe weather events, and outbreaks.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's/Master's degree Environmental Health & Safety, B.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent, and 10+ years of relevant experience
· Previous experience in explosive safety, radiation safety, laser safety, DOD, and NFPA is a plus.
· Must hold or be able to obtain a BATF license
· Experience with and knowledge of energetic materials
· Process safety management (PSM) training and experience
· Project management training and experience
· Ideal candidate will have extensive HESS background in explosives, propellant or pyrotechnic manufacturing
· Extensive knowledge of federal regulations required (OSHA, EPA, etc .)
· Preferred certifications: CSP; CIH; CHMM
· Knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to hazardous waste. Specifically, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Full-time
• Preferably on-site at one of Nammo Group’s US locations, but some duties may be performed remotely from time-to-time
• Extensive travel required (55%); typically two weeks per month at Nammo Group’s US sites as well as occasional travel to Europe
