GCI Communication Corp Associate Buyer in United States

GCI's Associate Buyer is responsible for identifying and procuring the goods and services that an organization requires. Will identify external material needs of the organization, find service providers who can supply these goods, negotiate prices, and arrange for the purchase and delivery of such goods and services.

This is an entry level position in this professional discipline, possessing basic working knowledge of subject matter. Requires the ability to perform basic and various duties with deadlines and constraints under supervision, referring complex issues to higher-level staff. Expected to meet deliverables and carry out duties timely and accurately.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the purchase of goods, materials, components, or services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets.

  • Assist the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations.

  • Act as a support between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities.

  • Monitor and assist any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers.

  • Assist with analysis of costs, new and existing and review cost reduction activities.

  • Prepare reports and updates as and when required.

  • Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements.

  • Support the negotiation of contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.

  • Support the preparation and raise purchase orders and order schedules.

  • Support supplier relationships and keep up good communications.

  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.

  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures guidance during supplier negotiations and contracts award process.

  • Through guidance and direction of higher-level staff and management assist and support:

  • Basic research into new components and suppliers.

  • Data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation.

  • Contract compliance.

  • Price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience within finance, accounting, and/or supply chain field. *

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in logistics, procurement, business management or related field.

  • Knowledge of Oracle EBS platforms and services.

  • Understanding and experience with Purchasing Contracts.

  • Negotiation and consulting skills.

  • Telecommunications experience.

  • Other relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires driving a company-owned vehicle, company provided vehicle, or a personal vehicle on behalf of the company. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and successfully complete Defensive Driving course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage.

  • Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.

  • Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.

  • Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.

  • Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.

  • Available to work additional time on weekends, holidays, before or after normal work hours when necessary.

  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers.

  • Virtual workers must comply with remote work policies and agreements.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to an immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.
