The Telecommunications Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of both voice and non-voice communications systems. This includes intercom systems, public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, telephone key systems/PBAXs, and terminal and communications equipment. The role involves running cables, key cables, and house wires to telephone sets and terminating equipment for both voice and non-voice circuits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, remove, maintain, and repair voice and non-voice communication systems, including intercoms, public address systems, and alarm systems.

  • Handle electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems/PBAXs and associated terminal and communication equipment.

  • Run and connect cables to telephone sets, terminal connectors, and key telephone equipment.

  • Perform maintenance and repair of OSP cable systems, including copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling (aerial, buried, direct buried, and underground).

  • Terminate, splice, locate, mark, test, tag, and cross-connect cable pairs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing OSP cable systems.

  • BICSI Technician Certification.

  • Training in OSHA Confined Space, Basic Bucket Truck Operations, Ladder Safety, Aerial and Scissor Lift Safety, and GPS.

  • Cable Locator and Ground Penetrating Radar training.

This role requires hands-on experience with a variety of telecommunications systems and infrastructure, as well as the ability to work with both voice and data communications equipment in diverse environments.
