About the role
As a Senior Product Designer on our Security Policies team, you'll be at the forefront of transforming how organizations approach DevSecOps. You'll design intuitive and innovative UI/UX solutions that empower teams to develop software securely and efficiently, where your expertise will directly contribute to reducing business risks without compromising developer velocity.
You'll craft experiences that not only enforce security and compliance across our expanding platform but also streamline prioritization and remediation workflows through automation. This means you'll help teams work more efficiently, with less friction, and greater impact.You'll have the opportunity to think outside the box and propose bold solutions that could radically change how our security policies UI operates. Your designs will cater to large enterprise customers, making complex security configurations easy to manage and maintain.
Your work will have a profound impact on our customers and the broader community. By contributing to our one-stop platform for all things DevSecOps, you'll help organizations with limited resources enhance their security posture. You'll empower product development teams to "shift left," enabling them to proactively address security challenges and reduce threats effectively.
You’ll collaborate closely with security experts, engineers, and other designers within the Security Risk Management team. What You’ll Do
Design a holistic approach enabling AppSec and Dev teams to efficiently define security rules and enforcements through Security Policies that work in conjunction with their configured security analyzers, vulnerability dashboard/reports allowing teams to efficiently manage their organizations risk.
Build an all-in-one Vulnerability Management platform
Incorporate Jobs to Be Done theory into our everyday strategy and design efforts.
You’ll communicate your vision designs and ideas through wireframes, prototypes, user flows, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs.
You’ll help develop hypotheses and establish clear success metrics to test new features or product changes and determine their impact on user experience and business outcomes.
You’ll undertake usability testing to validate your thinking. (We’ve got an excellent team of UX Researchers who can offer guidance, as needed.)
You’ll contribute to our Design System (https://design.gitlab.com/) , alongside the rest of the UX team and the GitLab community as a whole.
What You’ll Bring
Must have demonstrated experience designing enterprise grade software that suit large organizations well but are still easy to use and maintain.
Familiarity with designing holistic, complete workflows, and larger design visions or North Star Vision Designs.
Domain knowledge or background in DevSecOps and a familiarity with the security ‘Shift Left’ movement.
Experience fostering collaboration across multiple product teams and stakeholders.
Experience conducting your own research with a variety of methods, and strong decision making skills for when to do research.
Experience with the Jobs-to-be-Done/ODI framework.
Strong visual design skills with the ability to balance leveraging the design system and recognising when a unique component is needed.
About the team
Product Design supports the teams at GitLab by becoming experts in our assigned Stage Group, educating ourselves about the entire product, and staying engaged with user and business goals. We partner closely with our stable counterparts in Product Management and Development. As Product Designers, we are the owners of design judgment. We start with understanding our user, their goals, and needs and extrapolating that into a problem to solve and then always consider what the best experience for the user would be.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
